Muere Antonio Castañeda, el babalao de mayor rango en el régimen. Presidía la Asociación Cultural Yoruba, que organiza la Letra del Año oficialista, y era diputado a la Asamblea Nacional.
El presidente la Asociación Cultural Yoruba de Cuba y diputado a la Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular, Antonio Castañeda Márquez, murió este lunes en La Habana, a los 67 años de edad, informó la agencia oficial Prensa Latina.
La causa de su muerte no fue mencionada.
REMIGIO HERRERA ADDESHINA.
Heredero del primer sacerdote de Ifá que hubo en Cuba, Remigio Herrera Addeshina, que significa “Corona abre camino”, Antonio Castaneda Marquez fue elegido en 1992 como presidente de la Asociación Yoruba en Cuba legalmente.
Nacido en La Habana en 1946, el religioso estudió clarinete, saxofón y flauta y participó en organizaciones militares desde 1959.
En 1991 fundó, junto a otro Manolo Ibáñez, la Asociación Cultural Yoruba de Cuba, reconocida legalmente por La Habana y órgano de control del régimen para asuntos relacionados con la cultura y la religión afrocubanas, y la presidió desde 1992 a la muerte de Ibañez.
Según Prensa Latina, la institución tiene 20.000 asociados, así como “26 instituciones anexas en el exterior, y otras 20 en proceso”.
Castañeda Márquez estaba consagrado como babalao en el rito de Ifá, desde 1965. Desde 2008 se desempeñaba como diputado a la Asamblea Nacional de Poder Popular.
La Asociación Cultural Yoruba organiza anualmente la ceremonia de la Letra del Año oficialista, una ceremonia que se realiza todos los años por un grupo de babalawos. En Cuba se realiza a final del año y en Nigeria a mediados de año.
La primera letra del año en Cuba la sacó Addeshina, en la época de don Tomás Estrada Palma, cuando este tomó posesión como primer Presidente de la República; fue Addeshina quien enseñó a hacer la apertura del año, reunió a todos los babalawos que habían y lo hizo.
Durante esta actividad se predice lo que en el futuro, en los próximos doce meses, les puede ocurrir a las personas, religiosos y no religiosos, al país, a la nación, incluso en el mundo.

Antonio Castaneda, senior ranking Babalao priest who chaired the Yoruba Cultural Association, which organizes the official Letter Year, and was a deputy to the National Assembly died according to the official press.
