Back in December 2001, the media were abuzz with claims that “explorers (Mr. & Mrs. Zelitsky) have discovered what they think are the ruins of a submerged city built thousands of years ago”. It was a big claim that got attention from respectable sources, such as National Geographic, but later everything has remained in silence.
What happened with the Cuban ruins found…?
Deep in the waters of Cabo de San Antonio, off Cuba’s coast, researchers are exploring unusual formations of smooth blocks, crests, and geometric shapes that they are more than 2,000 feet (650 metres) below the sea’s surface.. The Canadian exploration company that discovered the formations, Advanced Digital Communications, has suggested that they could be the buildings and monuments of an early, unknown American civilization, a submerged city built thousands of years ago.
All start when Advanced Digital Communications, one of four firms working in a joint venture for Cuba administration to explore Cuban waters, which hold hundreds of treasure-laden ships from the Spanish colonial era. Mr & Mrs. Zelitsky using their 265 feet long ship ‘Ulises’ they have discovered many sunken ship, but this time they say still do not understand the exact nature of their discovery, and plan to start a thorough analysis of the site – off the tip of the Guanahacabibes Peninsula.
The explorers first spotted the underwater city last year, when scanning equipment started to produce images of symmetrically organized stone structures reminiscent of an urban development. It’s a really wonderful structure which really looks like it could have been a large urban centre.
Many scientists are skeptical of any theory that might tempt people to draw a parallel with the fabled lost city of Atlantis. Geologist Manuel Iturralde, however, has stressed the need for an open mind while investigations of the site continue.
Ancient stories of massive floods pass from generation to generation and in many places in the world are integral to a people’s spoken history.
Recent undersea findings may yield new clues to the study of human habitations that now lie beneath the waves.
“These are extremely peculiar structures, and they have captured our imagination,” said Iturralde, who is director of research at Cuba’s Natural History Museum. Iturralde has studied countless underwater formations over the years, but said, “If I had to explain this geologically, I would have a hard time.”
In his report on the formations, Iturralde noted that conclusive proof of man-made structures on the site could reinforce some oral traditions of the Maya and native Yucatecos. These people still retell ancient stories of an island inhabited by their ancestors that vanished beneath the waves.
Iturralde makes it clear, however, that just because no natural explanation is immediately apparent, it doesn’t rule one out. “Nature is able to create some really unimaginable structures,” he said.
Further research is scheduled to take place over the summer. Data thus far has been collected using sonar scans and video. The structures are buried under 1,900 to 2,500 feet (600 to 750 meters) of water.
Few months later, the researchers returned to the site with an explorative robot device capable of highly advanced underwater filming work. The images the robot brought back confirmed the presence of huge, smooth blocks with the appearance of cut granite. Some of the blocks were built in pyramid shapes, others were circular, researchers said.
“It’s a really wonderful structure which really looks like it could have been a large urban centre,” ADC explorer Paulina Zelitsky told the Reuters news agency.
“However, it would be totally irresponsible to say what it was before we have evidence.”
Collecting samples from the blocks and the sediment in which they are imbedded is the next step toward determining the origin of these curious structures.
If Paulina Zelitsky and her oceanographic colleagues are right in their belief that ‘pyramids, roads and buildings’ do lie off Cuba’s western coastline, then it is clear that the prehistory of the Caribbean, and its influence on the rise of Mesoamerican civilisation, will have to be revised dramatically. Moreover, it could well be that at long last the mystery of Atlantis, mankind’s greatest historical enigma, is about to unfold in a most spectacular fashion.
But our question, Why all have been covered up?

Si Paulina Zelitsky y sus colegas oceanográficos tienen razón en su creencia de que ‘pirámides, carreteras y edificios », respectivamente, se encuentran frente a la costa occidental de Cuba, entonces es claro que la prehistoria del Caribe, y su influencia en el surgimiento de la civilización mesoamericana, tendrá ser revisado drásticamente. Por otra parte, bien podría ser que por fin el misterio de la Atlántida, el mayor enigma histórico de la humanidad, está a punto de desarrollarse de una manera más espectacular.
Pero nuestra pregunta, ¿Por qué todo ha sido silenciado y escondido.?
