FILMS: LEONARDO PADURA & LAURENT CANTET, “RETURN TO ITHACA”.
The vision of Cuba by Laurent Cantet, awarded the Jury Prize at Venice Days. The script of ‘Return to Ithaca’, based on ‘The novel of my life of Leonardo Padura, was drafted by the Cuban writer and French filmmaker.
French director Laurent Cantet has risen as winner of the Venice Days sidebar Conference Authors in the 71st edition of the Venice Film Festival, with its vision of the Cuban exile Return to Ithaca, reports EFE.
The official jury of that section, headed by Argentinean director Diego Lerman, announced Friday its decision to conclude the discussions.
“In very limited time and space conditions, the filmmaker successfully delivered a complex and emotional about the secrets of past work,” the jury in its consideration.
The award consists of delivering a trophy and 20,000 euros to be shared between the director and the international distributor, you must use your hand to promote the film.
Winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes for The Class (2008), Cantet film explores the disillusionment of a generation of educated Cuban Revolution.
With a novel based on my life, Leonardo Padura, drawn halfway between Cantet and Cuban writer, Return to Ithaca account the meeting of five friends to celebrate the return to Havana protagonist, Amadeo, after 16 years of exile.
Jorge Perrugorría, Isabel Santos, Nestor Jimenez, Fernando Hechevarría, Alberto Pujols and Pedro Julio Diaz put on the skin of that group that shelled their memories of youth, the illusion that they had in the future and their subsequent disillusionment.
Return to Ithaca was also screened at the Festival of San Sebastian (Spain), which starts on September 19, within the Pearls section.
