José Ramón Díaz Alejandro known artistically as Ramon Alejandro (born February 1943, Havana, Cuba) is a Cuban painter now living in exile in Paris, France.
He began his artistic life in 1969 with the exhibition “Alejandro. Galerie Maya, Brussels, Belgium. In 1971 the exhibit Alejandro was seen at the Galerie Jacques Desbrière, Paris. Later in 1987 the same show was presented at the Galerie Du Dragon, Paris.
He has been involved in several collective projects. In 1965 his work was shown as part of the Exposición de La Habana at the Galería Latinoamericana, Casa de las Américas, La Habana, Cuba. In 1967 Mostra Grafica Latinoamericana was seen at the Istituto Italo Latinoamericano, Rome, Italy. In 1984 he participated in the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC) at the Grand Palais in Paris. Most recently, in 2001, he was selected for the exhibition New Art Of Cuba, seen at the José Alonso Fine Arts Gallery in Miami, Florida.
Alejandro’s recent work is characterized by poetic nostalgia. Amid landscapes bounded by distant cliffs, remote mountains, or calm seas there rise vast stone constructions which, like the mysterious monuments based in the Hindu principle of the mandala, have openings to each of the four points of the compass. They seem to be illustrations for works of science fiction or visions of a world of sheer illusion. Each element is defined in detail by the sure, skilled hand of a mature artist, co nstantly on the advance, whose creations exert a beguiling effect upon the viewer.

From 1969 to 1971 he obtained the Cintas Foundation Fellowship, New York.

José Ramón Díaz Alejandro conocido artísticamente como Ramón Alejandro (nacido en febrero de 1943, La Habana, Cuba) es un pintor cubano que ahora vive en el exilio en París, Francia.
Comenzó su vida artística en 1969 con la exposición “Alejandro. Galerie Maya, Bruselas, Bélgica. En 1971, la exposición Alejandro fue visto en el Desbrière Galerie Jacques, Paris. Más tarde, en 1987, el mismo espectáculo se presentó en la Galerie du Dragón, París .

Reciente trabajo de Alejandro se caracteriza por la nostalgia poética. En medio de paisajes limitadas por acantilados distantes, montañas remotas, o mares en calma se alzan enormes construcciones de piedra que, como los misteriosos monumentos basados en el principio hindú del mandala, tienen aberturas a cada uno de los cuatro puntos cardinales. Parecen ser las ilustraciones para las obras de ciencia ficción o visiones de un mundo de pura ilusión. Cada elemento se define en detalle por la mano segura, experto de un artista maduro, co nstantly en el avance, cuyas creaciones ejercer un efecto seductor sobre el espectador.
