The permit received by the baseball star Pedro Luis Lazo to play in the Mexican professional baseball was seen as a great sign for the other Cuban players.

PRONTO MUCHOS SEGUIRAN LOS PASOS DE PEDRO L. LAZO
El permiso que recibió el estelar Pedro Luis Lazo para lanzar en el béisbol profesional mexicano fue visto como una gran señal para los demás peloteros cubanos.
De hecho, el mánager del equipo nacional antillano, Víctor Mesa, considera que fue una señal que abrirá puertas de la isla a otros peloteros con nivel para jugar en el profesionalismo.
“No dudes que muy pronto veremos a otros peloteros de mi país jugando como Pedro Luis, yendo al profesionalismo”, dijo Mesa, durante una entrevista realizada en el Parque Kukulcán, antes del choque amistoso que ganaron los cubanos ante un combinado de la liga invernal que integraron los Leones y otros clubes de la Mexicana.
Mesa, quien dijo sentirse a gusto de regresar al Kukulcán (vino como mánager del Águila de Veracruz hace unos años), se mostró contento por el nivel que ha mostrado la selección cubana que dirige, “algo que ha sido desde siempre porque a nosotros siempre nos ha gustado salir a ganar, a dar lo mejor. Nos preparamos de la mejor manera posible en todo, no sólo en el béisbol, sino en todo lo que hacemos”.
Destacó el nivel de Lazo, quien llegó a México mediante un intercambio deportivo con el estado de Campeche. Luego, el histórico lanzador cubano recibió autorización para enrolarse con los Piratas, marcando un hito pues se trato del primer antillano que juega en el profesionalismo con autorización del régimen comunista.
“Es un gran lanzador, tiene mucha experiencia”, opinó Mesa sobre Lazo.
Ahora, el estratega cubano tiene la mente puesta en el sueño de toda la afición de su país: ganar el Clásico Mundial de Béisbol de 2013.
Y es que ese galardón tal vez sea el único que falte en las vitrinas del siempre laureado béisbol cubano, que tiene en su palmarés títulos mundiales y medallas de oro olímpicas.
“Es de verdad un sueño. No es fácil llegar a la meta, pero este equipo esta trabajando para ello”, comentó.
¿Cómo considera a su equipo de cara al Clásico?
“Creo que está muy bien balanceado. Buena defensiva y ofensiva, con respetable pitcheo y velocidad”.
“Pero tu sabes, no hay rival pequeño en el béisbol. Nos tocará en la primera ronda Japón y China y tu sabes cómo juegan ellos. Lograrlo es el esfuerzo diario, el trabajo de siempre, así como ha sido siempre en mi país”.
