The sports authorities suspended the receiver Yenier Bello, who did not integrate the team for the next Sancti Spiritus National Series after being caught in an illegal exit.
Bello, 26, considered one of the best catching prospects in Cuba, tried to escape the island in early October, after being excluded from the national preselection preparing for the World Baseball Classic III 2013.
“He tried to leave so soon removed him from the shortlist and it seems that they were in the crosshairs,” said a source close to the National Sports Institute (INDER) in Sancti Spiritus. “Now we have to forget about the ball for a long time or try to escape again.”
The source said Bello apparently intended to reach Mexico to look after inserted in professional baseball, as have dozens of Cuban players that currently make up Major League teams.
Accounts of the suspension of Bello circulating for weeks and were confirmed by an official of the National Baseball Commission (CNB) during the meeting to integrate all the 52 espirituano National Series, but did not specify the cause of action.
Averoff Ibrahim, member of the CNB said currently completed “legal and judicial procedures to establish appropriate sanction due to serious misconduct committed during the team training in Havana Cuba.”
Bello was a mainstay of the set espirituano since its debut in national tournaments in 2003. In the 2011 National Series batted 274 (399-102) with 13 home runs and 58 RBIs.

Suspenden a destacado pelotero por intento de abandonar el país
Las autoridades deportivas suspendieron al receptor Yenier Bello, quien no integrará el equipo Sancti Spíritus para la próxima Serie Nacional tras ser capturado en una salida ilegal del país.
Bello, de 26 años, considerado uno de los mejores prospectos de la receptoría en Cuba, intentó escapar de la isla a comienzos de octubre, luego de ser excluido de la preselección nacional que se prepara para el III Clásico Mundial de Béisbol 2013.
“Intentó irse tan pronto lo sacaron de la preselección y parece que lo tenían en la mirilla”, dijo una fuente vinculada al Instituto Nacional de Deportes (INDER) en Sancti Spíritus. “Ahora tendrá que olvidarse de la pelota por largo rato o tratar de fugarse de nuevo”.
La fuente señaló que al parecer Bello pretendía llegar a México para buscar luego insertarse en el béisbol profesional, como han hecho decenas de jugadores cubanos que integran actualmente equipos de Grandes Ligas.
Las versiones sobre la suspensión de Bello circulan desde hace semanas y fueron confirmadas por un funcionario de la Comisión Nacional de Béisbol (CNB) durante la reunión para integrar el conjunto espirituano a la 52 Serie Nacional, aunque no se especificó la causa de la medida.
Ibrahim Averoff, miembro de la CNB, dijo que actualmente se realizan “los trámites jurídicos y legales para establecer la sanción correspondiente debido a una indisciplina grave cometida durante los entrenamientos del equipo Cuba en la capital cubana”.
Bello era un puntal del conjunto espirituano desde su debut en torneos nacionales en el 2003. En la Serie Nacional 2011 bateó para 274 (399-102),con 13 jonrones y 58 carreras empujadas.
