Raul Castro’s family continues to receive the approval of the U.S. authorities to come to the United States, at least for a visit.
Vilma Rodriguez Castro, Cuban leader’s granddaughter, has been in New York this week to attend the Latin American art fair comtenporáneo PINTA 2012, which opens this Thursday.
She traveled in the company of her boyfriend, the Cuban artist Arlés del Rio, who are invited to show their works at PINTA 2012, as confirmed to fairgoers CaféFuerte New York.
The State Department declined to comment on the granting of visas to Castro Rodriguez, citing its privacy policy.
“We do not discuss specific details on individual visa cases,” said William Ostick, State Department spokesman. “The visas are confidential records under federal law.”
Rodriguez Castro, 25, is the youngest daughter of Deborah Castro Espin and Lieutenant Colonel Luis Alberto Rodriguez Lopez Callejas, former executive director of the business group and currently GAESA commissioned by the project investor Cuban port of Mariel.
Rodríguez is Raul Castro’s sister, who serves as assistant and personal bodyguard of his grandfather, and is known by the nickname “The Crab”.
His visit is the second of a member of the Castro family circle to the United States this year.
Rodríguez Castro was seen Wednesday night at a side event of PINTA 2012 in the neighborhood of Manhattan, and on Thursday morning assembly attended her boyfriend’s paintings in a gallery related to the sample.
One of the works of Del Rio is titled Fly Away (Fly Away).
“At the meeting last night [Wednesday] was the sculptor Florencio Gelabert and Ben Rodriguez-Cubeñas [director of the Cuban Artists Fund of New York and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund executive],” said a witness, who requested anonymity. “Wearing shoes Chanel, Louis Vuitton wallet and Rolex watch like the most natural thing in the world.”
PINTA 2012 also includes works by Cuban artists such as Wilfredo Lam, René Portocarrero, Amelia Peláez, Lolo Soldevilla, Consuelo Castañeda, Flavio Garciandía and Abdel Barroso.

La familia de Raúl Castro siguen recibiendo permiso de las autoridades norteamericanas para venir a Estados Unidos, al menos de visita.
Vilma Rodríguez Castro, nieta del gobernante cubano, se encuentra desde esta semana en Nueva York para asistir a la feria de arte latinoamericano comtenporáneo PINTA 2012, que se inaugura este jueves.
La joven viajó en compañía de su novio, el artista plástico cubano Arlés del Río, quien está invitado a mostrar sus obras en PINTA 2012, según confirmaron a CaféFuerte asistentes a la feria neoyorquina.
El Departamento de Estado declinó comentar sobre el otorgamiento de visado a Rodríguez Castro, alegando su política de confidencialidad.
“No hablamos de los detalles específicos en casos de visas individuales”, manifestó William Ostick, vocero del Departamento de Estado. “Los registros de visas son confidenciales bajo la ley federal”.
Rodríguez Castro, de 25 años, es la hija menor de Deborah Castro Espín y el teniente coronel Luis Alberto Rodríguez López Callejas, ex director ejecutivo del grupo empresarial GAESA y actualmente encargado por la parte cubana del proyecto inversionista en el puerto del Mariel.
Es hermana de Raúl Rodríguez Castro, quien funge como asistente y escolta personal de su abuelo, y es conocido por el sobrenombre de “El Cangrejo”.
Su visita es la segunda de un miembro del círculo familiar de los Castro a Estados Unidos durante el presente año.
Rodríguez Castro fue vista la noche del miércoles en un evento colateral de PINTA 2012 en la barriada de Manhattan, y en la mañana del jueves asistió al montaje de los cuadros de su novio en una galería relacionada con la muestra.
Una de las obras de Del Río se titula Fly Away (Vuela Lejos).
“En el encuentro de anoche [miércoles] estaban el escultor Florencio Gelabert y Ben Rodríguez-Cubeñas [director del Cuban Artists Fund de Nueva York y ejecutivo del Rockefeller Brothers Fund]”, dijo un testigo, que pidió anonimato. “Llevaba zapatos Chanel, cartera Louis Vuitton y reloj Rolex como si fuera lo más natural del mundo”.
PINTA 2012 incluye también obras de artistas cubanos como Wilfredo Lam, René Portocarrero, Amelia Peláez, Loló Soldevilla, Consuelo Castañeda, Flavio Garciandía y Abdel Barroso.
