However, Meme, who lives in New York, ruled out the possibility of traveling to Cuba on the occasion of the tribute.
“They invited me many years and entities in different ways but still not the time to go,” said the composer, who expressed satisfaction with the establishment of the program.

La música del legendario Meme Solís volverá a escucharse en La Habana en las voces de una treintena de cantantes cubanos que le rendirán homenaje en un espectáculo fijado para los días 5 y 6 de enero en el Teatro América.
Otro Amanecer: la música de Meme Solís en las voces de los principales intérpretes de Cuba se titula el espectáculo que bajo la dirección del experimentado Raúl de la Rosa ha convocado a celebridades de la canción romántica de varias épocas, desde Rosita Fornés, Ela Calvo, Farah María y Miguel Angel Piña hasta Ivette Cepeda, Vania Borges y Yaíma Sáez.
Se trata de una iniciativa sin precedentes en el panorama cultural cubano, considerando las posiciones críticas de Meme Solís hacia el régimen que lo condenó al ostracismo y le obligó a tomar el camino del exilio en 1987.
La idea original, guión y puesta en escena del espectáculo es de De la Rosa, un veterano director de grandes producciones musicales y de variedades en Cuba.
“Esto es posible gracias al gran esfuerzo de Raúl de la Rosa, un gran productor cubano. Junto a mi público de siempre y unido a estas nuevas generaciones de artistas y otros colegas de toda una vida, él hará realidad lo que parecía imposible”, expresó Meme en conversación con CaféFuerte. “Siempre tuve la certeza de que pasaría algún día para mí y para todos los artistas que intentaron borrar del patrimonio cultural de Cuba. No lo lograron”.
No es el momento de ir a Cuba
Sin embargo, Meme, que reside en Nueva York, descartó la posibilidad de viajar a Cuba en ocasión del homenaje.
“Llevan muchos años invitándome por diferentes vías e entidades pero aún no es el momento de ir”, afirmó el compositor, que mostró satisfacción por la conformación del programa.
