La escuadra nacional noqueó 12-0 a un débil conjunto chino, asegurándose así el pase a la segunda ronda del III Clásico Mundial de Béisbol.
Aunque en un inicio se les notó algo ansiosos ante los flojos lanzamientos de rompimiento del pitcher chino, los bateadores cubanos no tardaron en despertar, hasta que terminaron por apabullar a los asiáticos.
José Dariel Abreu la sacó con el bote lleno en el quinto inning, para terminar el partido con 5 impulsadas, un doble y un jonrón en cuatro turnos al bate.
También se lucieron el camarero José Fernández, con dos impulsadas, tres anotadas y tres hits en cuatro oportunidades; Frederich Cepeda (2B, 3B, RBI); Alexei Bell, con jonrón de dos carreras; y Alfredo Despaigne, de tres dos, una base por bolas, un doble y dos impulsadas.
Todos los regulares, exceptuando al receptor Sánchez, batearon al menos un hit.
