“Loneliness itself”, a song Reinaldo Escobar wrote Yoani when both began to know each other, now recovered the voice and life in the Cuban singer and composer Xino Carrasco by the initiative of the young Alberto Maceo.

Maceo, an actor who currently resides in Germany, had the idea to record the song created on one of the rocks meetings that organized Escobar in the 90 in his apartment in Nuevo Vedado.

“The meetings (Peñas) were called Factor 821, which is the address of the building, and there met actors, painters, musicians and artists of all kinds. Rescued from oblivion

The song became an anthem then on the 14th floor of the building where the couple lives.

Over the years the issue was forgotten, but Maceo says he always carried it, aided by his memory of actor. The international tour of Yoani inspired him to try to retrieve it.

To do this, contacted Xino Carrasco, Havana rocks mate, and sang the song as he remembered.

“I sang it, I sent the email text and the rest is history,” said Carrasco, who now lives in Puerto Rico.

On Monday, Yoani appreciated the gesture with a tweet: “A friend has put music to the song 20 years ago my husband @ rescobarcasas composed for me … Thank you!”

Yoani concludes his week-long visit to Miami on Thursday and will travel to Peru and then back to Europe to return to Havana in mid-May.

Historia de una canción para Yoani

La gira internacional de la bloguera Yoani Sánchez ha generado numerosas reacciones, pero quizás la más original sea la grabación de una canción que le compuso su esposo hace casi 20 años.

“La soledad en sí”, una canción que le escribió Reinaldo Escobar a Yoani cuando ambos empezaron a conocerse, recobró ahora vida en la voz y los acordes del cantautor cubano Xino Carrasco por iniciativa del joven Alberto Maceo.

Maceo, un actor que reside actualmente en Alemania, tuvo la idea de grabar la canción creada en una de las peñas que organizaba Escobar en los años 90 en su apartamento de Nuevo Vedado.

“Las peñas se llamaban Factor 821, que es la dirección del edificio, y allí se reunían actores, pintores, músicos y artistas de toda clase. La cosa comenzó a rodar de boca en boca y llegó un momento en que no se podía ni cerrar la puerta de la casa por la cantidad de gente que, buscando una opción cultural en medio de la nada habanera del período especial, comenzó a llegar”, rememoró Maceo en conversación con CaféFuerte.

“Era divertido”, recordó Maceo. “Y en algún momento comenzaron a aparecer canciones dedicadas a los que formábamos parte de ese grupo. Entonces apareció Yoani en casa de Reinaldo. Macho se enamoró de Yoani y como parte del arte de enamorarla le escribió el texto de esa canción que luego otro de nosotros, Hanry, que tocaba guitarra, musicalizó junto a otro amigo”.

Rescatada del olvido

La canción se convirtió entonces en un himno en el piso 14 del edificio donde vive la pareja.

Con el paso de los años el tema quedó en el olvido, pero Maceo dice que siempre la llevó consigo, ayudado por su memoria de actor. La gira internacional de Yoani lo inspiró para tratar de recuperarla.

Para ello, contactó al Xino Carrasco, compañero de las peñas habaneras, y le cantó la canción tal como la recordaba.

“Me la cantó, me envió el texto por email y el resto es historia”, comentó Carrasco, que vive actualmente en Puerto Rico.

Luego de finalizada la grabación, Maceo no sabía cómo hacérsela llegar a Yoani, ya que no tiene cuenta en Twitter. Luis Enrique Valdés Duarte, escritor y dramaturgo residente en España, lo hizo a través de su cuenta en la red social.

Este lunes, Yoani agradeció el gesto con un tweet: “Un amigo ha puesto música a la canción que hace 20 años mi esposo @rescobarcasas compuso para mí… Gracias!!!”

Yoani concluye su visita de una semana a Miami el próximo jueves y viajará a Perú y luego nuevamente a Europa para retornar a La Habana a mediados de mayo.
