Antes de comenzar el tope amistoso de béisbol con Estados Unidos, ya el equipo cubano sufrió su primera baja: el lanzador villaclareño Misael Siverio.

Concidiendo con el Derby de Jonrones de Grandes Ligas y en vísperas del Juego de Estrellas en Nueva York, Siverio abandonó la delegación cubana con el sueño de alguna vez desempeñarse en el mejor béisbol del mundo.

El pitcher, natural de Placetas, de 24 años, era el único lanzador zurdo incluido en el equipo cubano, que viajó al mediodía del lunes desde La Habana a Des Moines, Iowa.

“Desde el pasado año tenía hecha la decisión de jugar en Grandes Ligas, solo era buscar la oportunidad de irme y ahora fue”, dijo Siverio en declaraciones a CaféFuerte. “Espero poder cumplir mi sueño”.

Se destaca por una pronunciada curva, su principal arma desde el montículo, pero domina también la bola tenedor y tiene una recta que se acerca a las 90 millas.

De acuerdo con las nuevas regulaciones de Grandes Ligas, el lanzador sería elegible para la agencia libre tras regularizar su estatus migratorio en Estados Unidos, dado que cumplió más de cinco temporadas cubanas y y tiene más de 23 años.

Siverio es el segundo lanzador de selecciones nacionales que abandona el equipo Cuba en menos de un mes. El pasado 29 de junio desertó en París, Odrisamer Despaigne, cuando se dirigía al Torneo Interpuertos en Rótterdam, Holanda.
