Corea del Norte ha roto el silencio y ha exigido a las autoridades de Panamá que liberen a la tripulación y el barco de su bandera detenidos por transportar armamento cargado en Cuba porque, según ha dicho, se trata de mercancía legal. Las autoridades panameñas, según ha informado el fiscal Javier Caraballo, han imputado a 33 de los 35 tripulantes por tráfico de armas y planificaba imputar también a los dos restantes.
El país centroamericano inmovilizó la nave norcoreana el sábado pasado al sospechar que transportaba sustancias ilícitas, como drogas, y el lunes dijo que había descubierto componentes de radares antiaéreos de la época de la guerra fría y otros equipos militares anticuados, escondidos debajo de miles de toneladas de azúcar morena.

El país asiático está sometido a fuertes sanciones desde 2006, y una serie de resoluciones del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU le prohíben comerciar con la mayoría de los tipos armas por haber realizado una serie de pruebas nucleares y de misiles.
