A North Korean ship coming from Cuba was seized at the Panama Canal which were held after found missiles hidden in a cargo of sugar.
The president of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli, was announced on his Twitter account: “North Korea flagged ship was captured with cargo from Cuba with undeclared war material hidden in containers came under a cargo of sugar.”

The ship, identified by Lloyd’s List Intelligence as Chong Chon Gang, was arrested in the channel and diverted to the port of Manzanillo, in Columbus, to be requisitioned. Martinelli last night moved to the city of Columbus, and personally inspected the boat.
“Here we are on a boat Korean, Panamanian intelligence arrested, had a suspicion that had drug, brought to port, begin to verify everything that was on the boat,” said the president told Radio Panama.
Martinelli told the Chong Chon Gang brought more than 220 million pounds of sugar in five compartments and “to remove the sugar first litter containers we find.” In the first requisition two containers were found with weapons.
“The captain tried to commit suicide, there was mutiny of the sailors of the ship, has been an excellent job of drug prosecution and SENAN [National Air Service], they have done an excellent job,” he added.
The Panama Security Minister, Jose Raul Mulino said that United Nations consulted to determine which agency would be given the North Koreans confirmed a case of smuggling weapons.
Panamanian authorities estimate that it will take at least a week full boat inspection.
According to the Mexican newspaper El Universal, 35 sailors were sent to Fort Sherman, an American naval base in Panama.
The UN sanctions against North Korea prevent the transfer of weapons to and from the country, except for small arms.

INCAUTADO BARCO NORCOREANO procedente de Cuba con material belico
Un barco norcoreano procedente de Cuba fue incautado en el canal de Panamá luego de que se hallaran misiles escondidos en un cargamento de azúcar.
El propio presidente panameño, Ricardo Martinelli, lo informó en su cuenta de Twitter: “Panamá capturó barco de bandera norcoreana proveniente de Cuba con cargamento bélico no declarado. Material venía escondido en contenedores bajo un cargamento de azúcar”.

El barco, identificado por Lloyd’s List Intelligence como Chong Chon Gang, fue detenido en el canal y desviado hacia el puerto de Manzanillo, en Colón, para ser requisado. Martinelli se desplazó anoche hacia la ciudad de Colón, y personalmente inspeccionó el barco.
“Aquí estamos en un barco coreano, detenido por la inteligencia panameña, tenía sospecha de que tenía droga, lo trajimos a puerto, empezamos a verificar todo lo que estaba en el barco”, declaró el mandatario a Radio Panamá.
Martinelli relató que el Chong Chon Gang traía más de 220 mil quintales de azúcar en cinco compartimientos y “al quitar la primera camada de azúcar nos encontramos con los contenedores”. En la primera requisa se detectaron dos contenedores con armas.
“El capitán se trató de suicidar, hubo amotinamiento de los marinos del barco, ha sido una labor excelente de la fiscalía antidrogas y SENAN [Servicio Nacional Aeronaval], que han hecho un excelente trabajo”, agregó.
El ministro de Seguridad de Panamá, José Raúl Mulino, indicó que se consultará a las Naciones Unidas para determinar a qué organismo serían entregados los norcoreanos de confirmarse un caso de contrabando de armas de guerra.
Las autoridades panameñas calculan que tomará al menos una semana la inspección completa del barco.
De acuerdo el diario mexicano El Universal, los 35 marinos fueron enviados a Fort Sherman, una base naval estadounidense en territorio panameño.
Las sanciones de la ONU contra Corea del Norte impiden el traslado de armamento desde y hacia el país, con excepción de armas pequeñas.
