Cuando fue detenido por manejar irresponsablemente por una carretera de Florida, el pasado 28 de diciembre, Yasiel Puig se lo prometió a sí mismo: “No lo voy a volver a hacer, no voy a manejar nunca más”.
Por el momento, el estelar jardinero de los Dodgers de Los Angeles está cumpliendo su promesa. Ha contratado a un primo para que le maneje su automóvil después de su segunda violación de la velocidad límite en menos de un año.
El jueves, el presidente de los Dodgers. Stan Kasten, dijo a la emisora ESPNLA 710, que Puig le había comunicado la decisión de no conducir más.
“Le doy crédito por dar este paso”, declaró Kasten durante su comparecencia radial.

Un primo diferente
Pues sí, Puig llegó al equipo de Grandes Ligas, triunfó por todo lo alto y volvió a pisar el acelerador indebidamente. El miércoles, se divulgó el video completo del arresto del pelotero cubano en la autopista Alligator Alley, a la altura del condado de Collier, Florida, y toda la conducta de Puig durante el incidente sale a relucir con pelos y señales.
Lo primero que deben cerciorarse los Dodgers, es que Puig ha contratado a un primo diferente a quien lo acompanaba la mañana del 28 de diciembre. Según muestran las imágenes del video es que este primo, identificado como Ramón Nápoles, tiene la licencia de conducción suspendida en Florida y no puede hacer uso de ella en ningún otro estado.
La revelación surge en el video, pues el patrullero trata de no llevarse el auto Mercedes Benz con tres familiaresde Puig a bordo, entre ellos su madre, Maritza Valdés, y solicita si alguien tiene una licencia válida para llevar el carro a un lugar seguro desde el lugar del arresto. Nápoles dice que él puede, pero el patrullero comprueba minutos más tarde que su licencia está suspendida.
“Cuando uno es bueno le pasan estas cosas…”. llega a decir el angustiado jugador, de 23 años.
Ojalá no haya más capítulos de este corte con Puig. Su clase estelar de pelotero, su popularidad y conquistas de la primera temporadaen Grandes Ligas, le hacen merecedor de mejor suerte. Y está a tiempo de sentar cabeza.

When he was stopped for driving recklessly on a highway in Florida on December 28 , Yasiel Puig himself promised : ” I will not do again , I will not handle anymore.”
At the moment , the star outfielder Dodgers is fulfilling its promise . It has hired a cousin to his car to drive after his second violation of the speed limit in less than a year.
