(Cuba)Domadores arrasó a (USA)Knockouts en el match de ida de cuartos de final de la IV Serie Mundial de Boxeo (WSB), en La Habana, al ganar la noche del viernes las cinco peleas del tope, que los dejó a las puertas de las semifinales.
La franquicia cubana, líder en la ronda clasificatoria con 10 duelos ganados y uno perdido, fue muy superior el viernes al multinacional quinteto presentado por Estados Unidos y ahora solo necesita un triunfo en el duelo de vuelta, previsto para el 12 de abril en Salem, Massachusetts, para avanzar a semifinales.
El gran protagonista del cartel resultó el campeón olímpico y mundial Roniel Iglesias (69 kg), quien fulminó con gancho de izquierda al hígado en el tercer asalto al venezolano bronce mundial Gabriel Maestre, para imponerse por nocaut.
“No esperaba ganar así, pero estoy trabajando más los golpes de potencia y si podemos ganar antes del límite es mucho mejor”, dijo Iglesias a la prensa.
Subrayó que no piensa saltar al boxeo profesional.
Maestre, que el jueves prometió dar espectáculo, reconoció que el golpe lo dejó “sin aire” y aunque “quería levantarme no pude”.
Domadores, que había tomado la delantera el jueves sin subir al ring, pues el puertorriqueño Jantoni Ortiz no hizo el peso y fue declarado vencedor Gerardo Cervantes (52 kg), abrió el cartel con triunfo del bicampeón mundial Lázaro Álvarez (60 kg) frente al venezolano Luis Arcón 3-0 (50-45, 49-46 y 49-46).
Completaron la barrida el reaparecido Emilio Correa “junior” (81 kg),verdugo del brasileño Michel Borges de Souza (50-45, 49-46 y 49-46), y Yoandry Toirac, quien paseó la distancia ante el sueco Mohamed Sallah ( 50-44, 50-44 y 50-45).
“Esperábamos ganar uno o dos combates, pero el equipo cubano es muy fuerte”, dijo el DT de USA Knockouts, el cubano Mariano González, y se mostró esperanzado en que estos encuentros ayuden a “mejorar las relaciones entre Cuba y Estados Unidos”, enfrentados políticamente hace más de cinco décadas.
El jefe técnico de Cuba, Rolando Acebal, elogió la forma exhibida por sus muchachos y señaló que aunque los visitantes ofrecieron “resistencia” los púgiles cubanos “eran superiores”.
“Todos nuestros muchachos están en buena forma y terminan el quinto asalto respondiendo a las exigencias de cada combate”, destacó Acebal.
Domadores está ahora a solo un triunfo de semifinales, donde se verá las caras con Rusia, único que lo venció en las preliminares.
Rusia volvió a batir el viernes a Otamans de Ucrania 4-1, para un marcador global de 8-2.
