CUBA’S DIPLOMATIC MISSION IN US VUELVE A RENOVAR PASAPORTES TEMPORALMENTE.
La misión diplomática, que sigue sin encontrar banco, admitirá los trámites de quienes tengan previsto viajar a la Isla este verano.
La Sección de Intereses de La Habana en Washington anunció este lunes que renovará los pasaportes de los cubanos residentes en Estados Unidos que tengan reservas para viajar a Cuba entre el 15 de mayo y el 31 de agosto.
La misión diplomática dijo que sigue sin hallar un banco que asuma sus operaciones en Estados Unidos, debido al embargo.
Indicó que, “como solución temporal”, ha creado condiciones en su oficina consular para “renovar pasaportes vencidos o próximos a vencer” de los residentes en Estados Unidos que tengan previsto viajar a la Isla este verano.
La Sección de Intereses dijo que el trámite “deberá realizarse a través de las agencias de viaje que tienen vínculos de trabajo con la oficina consular, directamente en su sede en Washington D.C.”.
Añadió que el plazo señalado “pudiera extenderse en caso de que la implementación de la solución alternativa tomara más tiempo del que se ha previsto”.
“Las solicitudes motivadas por razones humanitarias continuarán recibiendo un tratamiento expedito” afirmó la misión diplomática. Recordó que, “de acuerdo con las normas migratorias vigentes en Cuba, los ciudadanos residentes en el exterior deben portar un pasaporte cubano válido para ingresar al territorio nacional”.
El pasado 14 de febrero, la Sección de Intereses y la misión permanente de Cuba ante la ONU perdieron la capacidad de realizar depósitos en su entidad financiera, el banco M&T, y desde el 1 de marzo se quedaron sin cuenta bancaria en Estados Unidos.
Ese banco decidió en noviembre de 2013 rescindir los servicios que prestaba a las representaciones diplomáticas cubanas. Luego otorgó una prórroga para el cese de sus servicios a ambas misiones, hasta el 1 de marzo.
El Gobierno estadounidense ha dicho en varias ocasiones que está ayudando a las oficinas diplomáticas cubanas a encontrar un nuevo banco y ha rechazado que el embargo sea el causante de la medida del M&T.
Según Washington, oficinas de otros países han sido también afectadas por el cierre de sus cuentas. M&T ha alegado razones comerciales.
El anuncio de la Sección de Intereses coincide con una época en la que aumentan los viajes de emigrados cubanos a la Isla.
Un estudio publicado en abril reveló que los viajes —de cubanos y estadounidenses— han aumentado constantemente en los últimos años, de 245.000 en 2007 a casi 600.000 en 2013.
En los primeros tres meses de este año viajaron a la Isla unas 173.550 personas desde territorio estadounidense. La cifra superó a la de los ingleses (149.515), alemanes (115.984) y franceses (96.640).

CUBA’S DIPLOMATIC MISSION IN US renew passports again.
The diplomatic mission, which still can not find bank formalities will admit those who have plans to travel to the island this summer.
The Interests Section in Havana said Monday that Washington will renew passports for Cubans living in the United States having reservations for travel to Cuba between May 15 and August 31 .
The embassy said it still does not find a bank to assume its U.S. operations because of the embargo.
He said , ” as a temporary solution ” has created conditions in the consular office to ” renew expired or due to expire passports ” of U.S. residents who plan to travel to the island this summer.
The Interests Section said that the process “should be made through travel agents who have working relationships with the consular office directly at its headquarters in Washington DC .”
He added that the period “may be extended if the alternative solution implementation took more time than planned .”
” The applications motivated by humanitarian reasons continue to receive prompt treatment ,” said the diplomatic mission. He recalled that “under current immigration laws in Cuba , citizens residing abroad should you carry a valid Cuban passport to enter the country .”
On 14 February, the U.S. Interests Section and the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the UN lost the ability to fund your financial institution , the bank M & T, and from March 1 were without bank account in the United States.
That bank decided in November 2013 to terminate its services to Cuban embassies . He then granted an extension for the cessation of services to both missions until 1 March.
The U.S. government has repeatedly said it is helping the Cuban diplomatic offices to find a new bank and rejected the embargo is the cause of the extent of M & T.
