ALBITA RODRIGUEZ: ‘No pido permiso para entrar en mi país’.
La cantante Albita Rodríguez, quien lleva dos décadas sin ir a su Cuba natal, sueña con regresar algún día a la isla “sin pedir permiso” y mientras no se den las condiciones solo le pide a Dios “seguir cantando para unir a los cubanos”.
“No he vuelto a Cuba. Sueño con volver, claro que quiero volver, pero no puedo porque tengo que pedir permiso y yo no pido permiso a nadie para entrar en mi país”, dijo la artista a Efe en Nueva York antes de presentarse en Town Hall junto a su amiga peruana Eva Ayllón.
Criada al calor de la revolución en el seno de una familia de músicos tradicionales, Albita Rodríguez triunfó durante años en Cuba, a donde llegó a ser una de las cantantes favoritas de Fidel Castro, antes de abandonar su país en 1993 para instalarse en Miami.
“Yo era revolucionaria y recuerdo un día que un tío me dijo: ‘Albita, cualquier proyecto social, filosófico o religioso que divida a las familias no puede ser bueno’. Y a mí eso se me quedó marcado”, cuenta la ganadora de un Grammy y un Emmy.
Para la intérprete cubana, fue “un grave error” que después del triunfo de la revolución muchos músicos se vincularan tanto a la política.

“Yo creo que ha quedado claro que la música y la política no deberían mezclarse, que el pueblo es pueblo y todos los artistas que de una manera u otra se vincularon tanto a la política, ahora la historia les está pasando las cuentas”, añade.
La cantante tiene claro lo que hace falta en Cuba: “que haya elecciones libres de una vez por todas”, porque donde algunos ven signos de apertura, para ella se trata de “puro maquillaje”, de cambios “cosméticos” que no le complacen.
“Puede que sea una minoría la que sufre la censura, pero mientras haya una persona que no pueda pensar libremente hay que luchar”, responde la artista, que siendo niña “jugaba con bongós, claves y güiros en vez de con muñecas”.
Por eso asegura que aunque ahora tenga pasaporte estadounidense, un país al que está “muy agradecida” porque le ha dado “patria y libertad”, Cuba sigue estando “impregnada” en su piel y en su alma. “No lo puedo evitar”.
“Mientras no se den las condiciones para volver, seguiré llevando a Cuba allá donde vaya y con mucho orgullo. Y lo único que le pido a Dios es que me permita seguir cantando para unir a los cubanos a través de la música”, concluye.
