La Federación de Cuba de Béisbol (FCB) dio a conocer este martes la preselección que se enfrentará a un equipo universitario de Estados Unidos y anunció la separación de seis peloteros por sus “intentos de salida ilegal del país”.
La ausencia de algunos jugadores noveles “con potencial” obedece, según declaraciones de Higinio Vélez, presidente de la FCB, a sus “implicaciones en intentos de salida ilegal del país”, informó el portal oficial Cubadebate.
Se trata de Gelkis Jiménez, Adriel Labrada y Carlos Manuel Portuondo (Santiago de Cuba), Yasmani Hernández Romero y Diosdani Castillo (Villa Clara) y Alejandro Jaime Ortiz (Isla de la Juventud).
Vélez trató con la prensa los casos de Freddy Asiel Álvarez y Ariel Miranda, además de mostrarse de acuerdo con la propuesta de examinar la posibilidad de llamar a Pedro Durán.
“Freddy Asiel ya cumplió su sanción, ahora debe ganarse el derecho a regresar a la preselección. Y en el caso de Ariel Miranda, el zurdo de Mayabeque, que estuvo involucrado también en una indisciplina grave, es la provincia la que debe decidir si juega la próxima Serie”, aclaró.
El grupo incluye a cuatro receptores, 16 jugadores de cuadro, ocho jardineros y 15 lanzadores, procedentes de la mayoría de los equipos participantes en la Serie Nacional, con excepción de Guantánamo, Sancti Spíritus, Cienfuegos y Mayabeque.
Con respecto a la dirección del equipo, el comisionado nacional explicó que Víctor Mesa ha sido incluido porque es el actual jefe técnico de la pelota cubana, “además de contar con la aptitud que se necesita para preparar el equipo y afrontar el tope contra Estados Unidos u otros de esta temporada internacional”.
“Él (Víctor Mesa) y Alfonso Urquiola, el director, saben mucho de béisbol, cuentan con experiencia en la dirección y pueden complementarse muy bien, porque tienen buenas relaciones profesionales y personales”, dijo Vélez.
El tope entre Cuba y la selección universitaria de Estados Unidos, pactado a cinco juegos, se disputará entre el 23 y 27 de julio en Matanzas y Pinar del Río.
