Los Gigantes de San Francisco contrataron este lunes al jardinero cubano Daniel Carbonell, según anunció la gerencia del club de Grandes Ligas.
El jugador, de 23 años de edad, jugó con el equipo de Camagüey en Series Nacionales durante cuatro años. En esa etapa bateó .287, con 119 carreras anotadas, 28 dobles, cuatro triples, nueve jonrones y 70 carreras impulsadas en 190 juegos.
En su nota de presentación, San Francisco destaca que Carbonell cuenta con experiencia en los tres puntos del campo abierto, aunque principalmente juega el jardín central.
El cubano reside actualmente en Mérida (México) y viajará a Arizona una vez que tenga una visa de trabajo.
Carbonell escapó de Cuba en octubre de 2013. Su entrenamiento en México ha estado centrado en la velocidad, la musculación y la defensa, entre otros aspectos técnicos.
“Mi brazo está mejor que nunca”, aseguró el jugador a DIARIO DE CUBA, el mes pasado, después de haber sido declarado “agente libre”.
Dijo que está buscando su “oportunidad” en Grandes Ligas, para lo cual ha trabajado “mucho, sin descanso” y con “gran concentración”.
Carbonell batea a las dos manos.
Los Gigantes no mencionaron la cuantía ni la duración del contrato, pero, según AP, ascendería a 1,4 millones de dólares.
El jugador recibirá un bono de un millón de dólares por firmar y salarios de 100.000 dólares anuales en Ligas Menores. Si es promovido a Grandes Ligas sus salarios serían de 500.000 este año, 525.000 la próxima campaña, 600.000 en 2016 y 650.000 en 2017.
El acuerdo incluye aumentos que elevarían su salario a un millón en 2016 si tiene más de 500 turnos al bate en 2015 y un millón en 2017 si tiene más tiene más de 500 turnos en 2016.

The Camagüey’s Outfielder currently is living in Mexico. He will travel to the U.S. once he has a work visa.
The San Francisco Giants hired Monday to Cuban outfielder Daniel Carbonell, management announced Major League club.
The player, 23-year-old played with the team in Camagüey National Series for four years. At that stage he hit .287 with 119 runs scored, 28 doubles, four triples, nine homers and 70 RBIs in 190 games.
In his introductory note, San Francisco notes that Carbonell has experience at all three outfield spots, though mostly played center field.
The Cuban currently residing in Mérida (Mexico) and travel to Arizona once you have a work visa.
Carbonell escaped from Cuba in October 2013. Their training in Mexico has focused on speed, fitness and defense, among other technical aspects.
“My arm is better than ever,” said the player’s DIARY OF CUBA, last month, after being declared “free agent”.
He said he is looking for his “opportunity” in the majors, for which he has worked “long without rest” and “high concentration”.

The Giants did not mention the amount or duration of the contract, but, according to AP, amount to $ 1.4 million.
