El estadounidense Terence Crawford retuvo el título ligero de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB) al vencer por nocáut técnico en el noveno round al cubano Yuriorkis Gamboa, informó la AFP.
Después de seis años brillando como campeón del peso ligero, Crawford (24-0, 17 KOs) mantuvo su invicto frente al cubano Gamboa (23-1, 16 KOs), que encajó su primera derrota.
Los tres primeros asaltos fueron bastante movidos con cierta ventaja para el cubano, quien no se vio muy oxidado pese a los cuatro meses de inactividad. El cubano se vio muy rápido aunque, en el cuarto, el estadounidense se viró a la zurda y se le hizo un poco más difícil en ese asalto.
En el quinto, el campeón envió a la lona al cubano con dos zurdazos que lo pusieron en mal estado, pero supo pasar el sofocón, aunque fue el primer asalto que se apuntaba limpiamente el norteamericano.
Ya en el octavo round, las acciones estaban bastante parejas, pues el cubano, después haber visitado la lona en el quinto, ya no era el mismo en el cuadrilátero. Gamboa volvió al piso después en el octavo por una buena derecha del campeón, quien a partir del quinto marcaba más mientras que el cubano buscaba un golpe definitivo que nunca llegó.
En el noveno, el estadounidense volvió con todo y con dos derechazos envió dos veces a la lona a Gamboa y el árbitro paró la pelea.
Crawford, de 26 años, tuvo tres victorias en el 2013 y, esta temporada, ya había superado por la vía rápida en marzo a Ricky Burns, campeón de peso ligero del Reino Unido, mostrando un excelente juego de piernas, una precisión milimétrica y mucha rapidez, y ahora demostró saber pelear como zurdo y como derecho.
Por su parte, el campeón olímpico Gamboa, de 32 años, venía con una experiencia limitada en las 135 libras, pues tenía una sola pelea en ese peso, con una victoria por decisión unánime sobre el hasta entonces invicto Darleys Pérez, en junio de 2013.

Terence Crawford U.S. retained the lightweight title of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to win by TKO in the ninth round to Yuriorkis Gamboa, AFP reported.
After six years shining as lightweight champion, Crawford (24-0, 17 KOs) remained unbeaten against the Cuban Gamboa (23-1, 16 KOs), who conceded their first defeat.
The first three rounds were pretty moved a certain advantage for the Cuban, who although not very rusty saw four months of inactivity. The Cuban was very fast though, in the fourth, the U.S. is turned to his left and made it a little harder in this assault.
In the fifth, sent the champion to the canvas with two lefts Cuban that put him in bad shape, but knew sofocón pass, but was the first assault the American neatly pointed.
