Según testigos que viajaban a bordo de un crucero que les brindó ayuda, el rescate se produjo en aguas cercanas a Cayo Hueso. En el mismo, cuyas imágenes fueron filmadas y subidas a YouTube, se vivieron momentos de angustia cuando estos 29 balseros cubanos gritaban el nombre y teléfono de sus familiares en Estados Unidos.
Según informa AméricaTeVé, entre quienes se arriesgaron a huir de la isla se encuentra Ernesto Gómez Machado. Periodistas de la señal conversaron con un tío suyo, quien teme que su sobrino sea deportado a Cuba.
Según Danilo Machado, su sobrino salió de Cuba en 1994 en el éxodo de los balseros. Tenía su residencia permanente en Estados Unidos pero entre 2002 y 2003 fue sentenciado en Cuba a 21 años de cárcel.
Machado, de 40 años y natural de Villa Clara, es uno de los 29 balseros que salieron de Cuba el pasado lunes, y que fueron rescatados el viernes 4 de julio.
Según supo América Noticias, en la embarcación no viajaban menores de edad pero si había cinco o seis mujeres, quienes fueron las primeras en abordar las lanchas de la guardia costera.
Fuentes cercanas a América Noticias confirmaron que en el bote viajaban Asbel Penafield, Ángel Rodríguez, Julio Cesar Villanova, Eddie Rotesta, Rosamaria Delgado, Jimmy Delgado, Rayniel Macebo, Omaidi Perales, Eddie Gómez y Ernesto Gómez Machadon entre otros.
Según testigos del incidente, el bote donde viajaban los cubanos tenía un boquete por donde entraba el agua.
