El cubano Rancés Barthelemy ganó por decisión unánime al dominicano Argenis Méndez y capturó el título junior de peso ligero de la Federación Internacional de Boxeo (FIB) el jueves, reporta la AP.
A pesar de perder dos puntos por infracciones, Barthelemy fue el más agresivo durante gran parte del combate en el American Airlines Arena. La pelea fue una revancha de su primer enfrentamiento, que terminó sin decisión el 3 de enero.
Los tres jueces anotaron la pelea para el invicto Barthelemy, con balance de 115-111.
“Esta fue una pelea difícil”, dijo el cubano. “Me enfrenté a un Argenis Méndez que lo arriesgó todo para mantener su título. Afortunadamente, sabía cómo superar todos los obstáculos”.

Dorticós mantuvo su invicto, pero no pudo lograr su nocáut número 18 en igual cantidad de peleas, aunque estuvo a punto en más de una ocasión.
Entretanto, Ramón Luis fue descalificado en su combate de debut profesional ante Dakota Dawson (3-0). El árbitro consideró que el cubano había dado un golpe a su oponente después de haberse ordenado una parada.

The Cuban Rancés Barthelemy won by unanimous decision to Dominican Argenis Mendez and captured the junior lightweight title International Boxing Federation (IBF) on the AP reports.
Despite losing two points for violations, Barthelemy was the more aggressive during much of the fighting in the American Airlines Arena. The fight was a rematch of their first fight, which ended without decision on January 3.
All three judges scored the fight for undefeated Barthelemy, with balance 115-111.
“This was a tough fight,” said Cuban. “I fought a Argenis Mendez who risked everything to keep his title. Fortunately, I knew how to overcome all obstacles.”
Barthelemy pressed Mendez in the first seconds, throwing rights to the head. Although Méndez blocked some hard knocks Barthelemy, others found their target.
Using his reach advantage, Barthelemy (20-0, 12 KOs, null) kept at a distance while connecting Mendez left jabs. Cuban also approached in the third round, with lefts and rights to the body.
But the approach helped to enjoy productive Méndez rounds in the seventh and eighth. Mendez, who exercised his third title defense, threw combinations to the body and left hooks to the head.
Barthelemy had regained the initiative and Mendez (21-3-1, 11 KO, 1 NC) on the ropes in the ninth, and scored with lefts to the head.
In another close round later in the exchange, the referee Tellis Assimenios Barthelemy deducted a point for low blow. Another blow to the tenth unsporting assault led to a second penalty.
In the same bill, the Cuban Yunier Dorticós (18-0, 17 KO) won a unanimous boricua Edison Miranda (35-10 30 KO) decision, reported AFP.
Dorticós remained unbeaten, but could not get his 18th knockout in as many fights, but almost on more than one occasion.
Meanwhile, Ramon Luis was disqualified in his bout professional debut against Dakota Dawson (3-0). The referee found that the Cuban had taken a blow to his opponent after a stop has been ordered.
