GOOGLE YA ESTA DISPONIBLE EN CUBA A QUIENES TIENEN INTERNET.
El navegador Google Chrome quedó disponible para Cuba, donde era inaccesible por las leyes estadunidenses de bloqueo comercial a la isla, según informó hoy la empresa propietaria del famoso buscador.
“Estamos felices al decir que los usuarios de internet en Cuba pueden ahora también usar Chrome y navegar por la red más rápida y seguramente que antes”, dijo Pedro Less Andrade, director para América Latina de Asuntos de Gobierno y Política Pública.
El anuncio se produjo un mes y medio después de una visita a La Habana de Eric Schmidt, presidente de Google, quien reportó su viaje en su blog y dijo que se proponía mejorar el acceso de los cubanos a la red.
A pesar del anuncio, en la noche del miércoles aún no era posible descargar el navegador en Cuba, reportó la revista electrónica bilingüe Progreso Semanal, que se edita en Miami y en La Habana.
Less Andrade escribió hoy en su blog corporativo que los controles a las exportaciones y las sanciones que impone Estados Unidos “a veces pueden limitar la disponibilidad de productos en ciertos países”.
“En la medida en que estas restricciones son efectivas, hemos estado trabajando para hacer cada vez más accesibles nuestras herramientas en los países sancionados”, agregó. “En los últimos dos años hemos conseguido que Chrome sea descargable en Siria e Irán”.
Con cinco años de vida, Chrome es el navegador más utilizado en el mundo, con casi la mitad de usuarios totales de la red.
El acceso a internet en Cuba es de baja velocidad y sólo se consigue en instituciones públicas o centros comerciales de conexión de la única empresa estatal de telecomunicaciones. Las cuentas particulares están restringidas.
Rafael de la Osa, director de la Red Cubarte, una de las más grandes de Cuba dirigida al sector de cultura, dijo a Progreso Semanal que este paso no representa en forma obligada un cambio de política.
“En el negocio no hay otra ley que la del más fuerte o el que llegue primero. Aquí hay sobre todo capital humano para explotar. Creo que va más por ahí”, agregó.
De inmediato no se sabía si habría también accesos a otras herramientas como Google Earth, Google Toolbar, Google Code Search o Google Analytics, que están fuera del alcance de los cubanos por la política estadunidense.

The Google Chrome browser became available for Cuba, where it was inaccessible by US laws trade embargo on the island, said today the owner of the famous search engine.
