La diputada Mariela Castro, hija del presidente cubano, Raúl Castro, afirmó hoy que uno de sus objetivos en el inicio de la actividad legislativa será la aprobación de una ley de identidad de género “amplia y actualizada”, que incluya “no sólo a personas transgénero sino también a personas intersexuales”.
Precisamente, la cuestión de la identidad de género fue el motivo por el cual Mariela Castro votó el pasado diciembre “no” al proyecto del nuevo Código de Trabajo de la isla porque, “aunque incluyó por primera vez la no discriminación por orientación sexual, no contempló la no discriminación por identidad de género”.
Fue la primera vez que un diputado rechaza una norma en la Asamblea Nacional de Cuba, donde todas las leyes suelen salir adelante con unanimidad, lo que causó cierto revuelo en internet cuando se conoció lo sucedido el pasado julio, aunque la hija de Raúl Castro restó importancia al afirmar que los desacuerdos son normales “en un lugar donde hay muchas cabezas pensantes”.
“Se logró que por primera vez se incluyera la cuestión de la orientación sexual y eso es muy importante”, destacó Castro en declaraciones a la prensa en un acto sobre educación sexual para adolescentes celebrado hoy en La Habana.
La diputada también consideró que el simple hecho de que se iniciara un debate en la Asamblea sobre la cuestión de género, en el que incluso participaron colectivos del movimiento LGTB (Lesbianas, Gais, Transexuales y Bisexuales), es “muy positivo” porque puede sentar precedente e incluirse en otras leyes que se fallen en adelante.
“Nos va a ayudar a trabajar en una vieja propuesta que ahora volveremos a presentar más actualizada, que es una ley de identidad de género más abarcadora, que afecte a todas las demás leyes que tienen que ver con el asunto”, subrayó.
La diputada también aseguró que seguirá trabajando para que el nuevo Código de Familia que lleva estancado en la Asamblea varios meses salga adelante, dando cabida a todas las opciones familiares, incluidas las uniones con personas del mismo sexo.
“No sé si son muchas, pero hay algunas personas que están obstaculizando que eso camine (…) Es también parte de un trabajo de cambio de mentalidad, pero como estamos trabajando persistentemente sabemos que lo vamos a lograr”, reiteró.
