Muere en México la compositora cubana Ela O’Farrill
Fue obligada a exiliarse en 1969, cuando el régimen de Castro consideró su canción “Adiós felicidad” como decadente y pesimista.
La compositora Ela O’Farrill murió el viernes en México, informó el sitio oficial Cubadebate, sin mencionar las causas ni otros detalles.
Otros artistas cubanos reaccionaron de inmediato en las redes sociales y mostraron su pesar por la noticia.
“En paz descanse la gran Ela O’Farrill. Compositora de inolvidables canciones y amiga incondicional de mi familia. Siempre te recordaremos. ¡Buen viaje!”, escribió en Facebook la cantante Malena Burke.
Por su parte, el pianista y compositor Meme Solís dijo: “Hoy, desde la distancia, te despido y te mantendré siempre en mi corazón. Adiós felicidad”.
Ela O’Farrill nació en Santa Clara en 1930 y desde 1969 vivía exiliada en México.
Su canción “Adiós felicidad” fue calificada por el régimen de “decadente” y “pesimista”, por lo que fue obligada a abandonar el país.

“Volví por primera vez a Cuba cuando se abrieron los vuelos para la comunidad cubana en el exilio, pude llevar a mis padres que habían venido a reunirse conmigo en 1974. El resto de mi familia sigue estando allá, generalmente he vuelto cada dos o tres años”, dijo O’Farril a la periodista Tania Quintero en 2008.
La compositora contó que la “detuvieron” en “un lugar cerca de Bellas Artes, casi detrás del antiguo Palacio Presidencial”, donde radicaba el Departamento Técnico de Investigaciones (DTI).
“Querían que me declarara gay y denunciara a todos los que conocía. Los interrogatorios eran a toda hora, incluso de madrugada, bajo focos de luz… algo verdaderamente nazi. Estuve siete días allí y nadie hizo nada”, denunció entonces.
Autora además de “No tienes por qué criticar”, “Cuando pasas tú”, “Freddy” y “Son cosas que pasan”, sus obras fueron interpretadas por Bola de Nieve, Elena Burke, Omara Portuondo, Martirio, Pancho Céspedes, Haila y Haydée Milanés, entre otros.
