Un total de 134,758 cubanos llegaron por vías ilegales a Estados Unidos para acogerse al estatus de refugiado durante la última década, el 67 por ciento de ellos a través de frontera mexicana, según estadísticas oficiales.
El análisis de las cifras proporcionadas por el Departamento de Seguridad Territorial (DHS) al término del año fiscal 2014 –concluido el pasado 30 de septiembre- confirma que el éxodo masivo y silencioso de cubanos de los últimos años se ha producido por tierra a través de los puntos fronterizos de México y Canadá, con menor afluencia de viajes martímos por el Estrecho de la Florida.
El mapa de la estampida cubana a Estados Unidos entre 2005 y 2014 lo conforman 118,997 que llegaron por puntos fronterizos de México y Canadá, así como los que entraron por aeropuertos con nacionalidad de un tercer país y solicitaron refugio politico, y 15,761 que arribaron en travesías marítimas y lograron tocar tierra firme. En ese mismo periodo 17,503 cubanos fueron interceptados en el Estrecho de la Florida y repatriados a la isla.
Pasadizos incontrolables
Sólo en el pasado período fiscal, unos 9,700 cubanos llegaron al Aeropuerto Internacional de Miami (MIA) con pasaporte español u otra nacionalidad europea y pidieron luego acogerse como refugiados en virtud de la Ley de Ajuste Cubano (CAA).
De manera que desde el 2005 a la fecha, el flujo ilegal de cubanos supera ampliamente los picos migratorios del éxodo del Mariel de 1980, cuando 125,000 personas abandonaron el país, y de la crisis de los balseros de 1994, que marcó la partida de 35,000. Una evidencia que comienza a movilizar la atención de politicos y expertos sobre el carácter incontrolable del arribo de cubanos a territorio estadounidense, a pesar de las medidas implementadas por Washington para facilitar una inmigración legal y ordenada.
Las alarmas se han disparado especialmente con las cifras de los últimos dos años, coincidiendo con la implementación de la reforma migratoria del gobierno de Raúl Castro, la cual eliminó los permisos de salida y flexibilizó las alternativas para abandonar el país.
Aunque Estados Unidos ha cumplido anualmente con la entrega de 20,000 visas de inmigrante para cubanos, según los acuerdos migratorios de 1994 y 1995, y la Sección de Intereses (USINT) en La Habana ha entregado dsde el 2013 más de 65,000 visas para visitas familiares, intercambios culturales y viajes de negocios, en su mayoría válidas por cinco años, la intensidad del éxodo cubano se ha multiplicado.

The Mexican border region is the maximum porosity to Cuban immigration to the United States.
A total of 134.758 Cubans came through illegal means to the United States to qualify for refugee status over the last decade, 67 percent of them through Mexican border, according to official statistics.
The analysis of the figures provided by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at the end of fiscal 2014 -concluido on 30 September-confirmed that the mass exodus of Cubans and quiet in recent years there has been rushing through border crossings from Mexico and Canada, with lower numbers martímos travel through the Straits of Florida.
