Pablo Milanés Arias was born in Bayamo, Cuba on February 24, 1943, a Cuban singer-songwriter and guitar player.
In the early 50s, and installed his family in Havana, he studied at the Municipal Conservatory of Havana, and worked on perfecting the guitar interpretation. In 1956 was released in the art world in the Rising Stars program, demonstrating its excellent musical ability.
He is considered one of the founders of the Cuban nueva trova, along with Silvio Rodríguez and Noel Nicola. He is a pianist and guitarist whose Brazilian-like melodies set him apart from the raw style of Silvio Rodríguez.
In 1963 he composed his first song, “You my disappointment” and from that year he began performing his own songs, which condensed different harmonic influences such as feeling or Baroque music, in places like Saint John, Cat Eye or Karachi , but in 1964 a new vocal group is incorporated Buccaneers.
While supportive of the Cuban Revolution, Milanés has been publicly critical of some aspects of the Cuban regime. He took official positions but, lately, he has allegedly avoided participating in pro-government campaigns;. On January 25, 2007, he signed a petition supporting Puerto Rico’s independence from the United States of America .
A number of artists have performed with him; among them Silvio Rodríguez, Joaquín Sabina, Ana Belén, Lilia Vera, Joan Manuel Serrat, Víctor Manuel, Compay Segundo, Raul Torres and Chucho Valdés stand out.

Following his music for film collaborations, in 1969 he joined the Sound Experimentation Group (GES) ICAIC and peers Noel Nicola, Sergio Vitier, Eduardo Ramos and Silvio Rodríguez, working under the tutelage of masters like Federico Smith and Leo Brouwer in the recovery of traditional Cuban music and its confrontation with new foreign contemporary trends. At that time such iconic songs as “Yolanda”, “Who I shop hand in passing”, or “Roads” arise, among many others.
Among his songs, “Yolanda”, “Yo me quedo”, “Amo a esta isla”, “Yo pisaré las calles nuevamente”, “Para Vivir”, and “El breve espacio en que no estás” are especially well-known.
