Obama admite que existen conversaciones para liberar a Alan Gross. ‘Seguimos preocupados por él; en primer lugar, no creemos que deba permanecer encarcelado’, ha señalado el presidente norteamericano.
El presidente de EEUU, Barack Obama, reconoció este miércoles que hay “conversaciones sobre cómo podemos volver a traer a Alan Gross” [a EEUU], durante una entrevista televisada y recogida por la agencia ANSA.
El régimen ha dicho reiteradamente que está dispuesto a liberar a Gross si Washington hace lo propio con los tres espías cubanos que cumplen allí sus condenas y que La Habana considera “héroes”.
Fuentes que visitaron a Gross en la cárcel recientemente aseguraron a la cadena ABC que su salud se está deteriorando, ya que sufre diabetes y ha perdido casi todos sus dientes.
“Seguimos preocupados por él; en primer lugar, no creemos que deba permanecer encarcelado”, dijo Obama.
“En cuanto a Cuba en general, he dicho muy claramente que la política de EEUU de facilitar el envío de remesas para las familias cubanas y que también hayamos hecho más fácil viajar (a la Isla) ha sido útil al interior del país”, aseguró el mandatario.
Pero al mismo tiempo, el Gobierno cubano “todavía debe hacer cambios significativos”, reclamó Obama.
La semana pasada, el portavoz de la Casa Blanca, Josh Earnest, dijo que la detención de Gross ha sido “una barrera” para las conversaciones más constructivas con La Habana.
“La liberación de Gross por parte del Gobierno cubano sobre la base de la motivación humana eliminaría un obstáculo a las relaciones más constructivas entre EEUU y Cuba”, afirmó el vocero de la Casa Blanca.
