Cuba recibe Barco Espía Ruso.The intelligence vessel CCB-175 “Viktor Leonov” of the Russian Navy docked in Havana Tuesday, on the eve of a historic meeting between Cuba and the United States to restore diplomatic relations.
The “Viktor Leonov”, 91.5 meters long and 14.5 meters wide, entered the Bay of Havana in the morning and was moored at the cruise ship dock without the Cuban authorities informed on arrival .
This survey vessel, sailing with about 200 crew members, took office in 1988 on the Black Sea Fleet, based in Sevastopol (Crimea), but seven years later was transferred to the Northern Fleet, according to Russian media.
The Russian ship began his visit to Havana the day before the start of the first high-level meeting in decades between the US and Cuba to prepare the normalization of bilateral ties and reopening embassies, five weeks after leaving half century of enmity.
HISTORICAL MEETING.
The US delegation will be headed by the Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Roberta Jacobson and his counterpart will be the director of the United States of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Josefina Vidal. This historic meeting will end on Thursday.
The US government showed no concern for the visit of Russian spy ship to the island, which is completely legal and has nothing unusual, officials said.
“This is not (just) unprecedented, it is not unusual, is not alarming,” said a defense official told AFP in Washington.
Neither the authorities nor the Cuban press announced the arrival of the Russian vessel, as neither did in his two previous visits in February and March 2014, times when he stayed a few days in Havana.

El buque de inteligencia CCB-175 “Viktor Leonov” de la Marina de Guerra de Rusia atracó este martes en La Habana, en la víspera de una histórica reunión entre Cuba y Estados Unidos para restablecer relaciones diplomáticas.
El “Viktor Leonov”, de 91,5 metros de largo y 14,5 metros de ancho, ingresó a la Bahía de La Habana en la mañana y quedó amarrado en el muelle de cruceros, sin que las autoridades cubanas hayan informado sobre su arribo.
Este buque de reconocimiento, que navega con unos 200 tripulantes, entró en funciones en 1988 en la Flota del Mar Negro, con base en Sebastopol (Crimea), pero siete años después fue transferido a la Flota Norte, según medios rusos.
El buque ruso inició su visita a La Habana el día antes del inicio de la primera reunión de alto nivel en décadas entre Estados Unidos y Cuba para preparar la normalización de los lazos bilaterales y la reapertura de embajadas, cinco semanas después de dejar atrás medio siglo de enemistad.
REUNION HISTORICA.
La delegación estadounidense la encabezará la subsecretaria de Estado para el Hemisferio Occidental, Roberta Jacobson, y su contraparte será la directora de Estados Unidos de la Cancillería cubana, Josefina Vidal. Esta histórica reunión terminará el jueves.
El gobierno estadounidense no mostró preocupación por la visita del buque espía ruso a la isla, la cual es totalmente legal y no tiene nada fuera de lo común, según funcionarios.
“Esto no es (algo) sin precedentes, no es inusual, no es alarmante”, dijo un funcionario de Defensa a la AFP en Washington.
Ni las autoridades ni la prensa cubanas anunciaron el arribo del buque ruso, como tampoco lo hicieron en sus dos visitas anteriores, en febrero y marzo de 2014, ocasiones en que permaneció algunos días en La Habana.
