El músico cubano de 72 años quien junto a Silvio Rodríguez y otros integrantes del movimiento de la Nueva Trova cubana fue uno de los grandes embajadores artísticos de la revolución cubana, convertida despues en un proceso no esperado por las grandes masas que lo apoyaron, se presenta ante lo que desembocado en un nuevo intento por restablecer las relaciones de EEUU y Cuba rota desde entonces.
El pasado 17 de diciembre los presidentes de EE.UU. y Cuba, Barack Obama y Raúl Castro, respectivamente, anunciaron en sendos discursos el inicio de los trámites para normalizar las relaciones bilaterales entre ambos países.
El veterano cantautor cubano Pablo Milanés, quien regresó al Teatro de la Universidad de Puerto Rico (UPR) treinta años después de haberse presentado allí, anticipa grandes cambios entre EE.UU. y Cuba aunque advierte que el proceso aún tiene ante sí muchos desafíos.
“Es un momento en el que parece que se avecinan cambios ante el restablecimiento de las relaciones diplomáticas entre EE.UU. y Cuba, pero hasta ahora todavía vivimos un escenario de conversaciones y los desafíos por parte de los dos Gobiernos son muchos”, dijo Milanés en una entrevista escrita con Efe.

El intérprete de “Yolanda” se encuentra en Puerto Rico para ofrecer mañana un concierto en el Teatro de la UPR, lo que supone su regreso al emblemático escenario universitario tras tres décadas de ausencia.
Asegura que volver ahí es “un gran placer”, puesto que recuerda su primer concierto en el Teatro de la UPR como “memorable”.
“Allí, como en muchos otros lugares, fue el público universitario el que me recibió, el que me dio la posibilidad de llegar al resto de las personas”, recuerda el músico, que recientemente se sometió a un trasplante de riñón donado por su esposa.
Milanés está envuelto en “mucho trabajo”, pues acaba de realizar una extensa gira por México, España, Chile y Perú presentando su disco “Renacimiento” (2013).
Además, en enero pasado presentó la producción “Canción de otoño”, que grabó junto con el músico cubano José María Vitier y en el que ambos interpretan poemas de poetas hispanoamericanos.
Según detalló a Efe, próximamente grabará también un álbum con su hija Haydée en el que incluirán algunas de sus “antiguas canciones”, a las que “ella misma ha hecho los arreglos musicales”.
