U.S. STATE DEPT.: VENEZUELA CRISIS “WON’T AFFECT CUBA-UNITED STATE TALKS”.
Talks to restore relations with Cuba will not be affected by escalating tensions between the US and Venezuela, and the unconditional support offered by Havana President Nicolas Maduro.

SITUACIÓN VENEZOLANA “NO AFECTARÁN CONVERSACIONES DE EEUU-CUBA”.
Las conversaciones para el restablecimiento de relaciones con Cuba no se verán afectadas por la escalada de tensiones entre Estados Unidos y Venezuela, y el apoyo incondicional ofrecido por La Habana al presidente Nicolás Maduro.
Al menos fue lo que dijo Jen Psaki, portavoz del Departamento de Estado, pocas horas después del respaldo proclamado por el gobenante Raúl Castro y la carta de felicitación de Fidel Castro a Maduro en relación con su agresiva intervención contra Washington, la noche del lunes.
“Las discusiones sobre el restablecimiento de las relaciones diplomáticas con Cuba continuarán como estaba planeado, así que definitivamente no se verán afectadas”, aseveró Psaki en un encuentro con la prensa en Washington.
La respuesta de la funcionaria se produjo a una pregunta sobre si la retórica de confrontación en la carta de Fidel Castro podría afectar las negociaciones entre Washington y La Habana. En su misiva, el anciano líder felicita a Maduro por su ““brillante y valiente discurso frente a los brutales planes del gobierno de Estados Unidos”.
Un comunicado del gobierno cubano -emitido la noche del lunes- criticó la declsión de Obama y señaló que “nadie tiene derecho a intervenir en los asuntos internos de un Estado soberano ni a declararlo, sin fundamento, alguno como amenaza a su seguridad nacional”.
Psaki recordó que la intención de la orden ejecutiva de Barack Obama no es promover disturbios en Venezuela, tal como se sugirió Maduro en su discurso, ni el menoscabo de la economía o el gobierno venezolanos. “Queremos dejar claro y enviar un fuerte mensaje de que no aceptamos violadores de derechos humanos ni funcionarios corruptos”.
