El futbolista español Raúl González afirmó que el amistoso que su actual club, el Cosmos de Nueva York, jugará este martes con la selección de Cuba será “histórico” porque el deporte en general “une a la gente” y deseó que marque el inicio de una relación más estrecha entre el fútbol de EE.UU. y de la isla.

El ex madridista destacó la “pasión” con la que los cubanos están comenzando a vivir el fútbol, en particular la Liga de España y dijo estar sorprendido de la cantidad que, en su primer paseo por las calles de La Habana, le reconoció y quiso hacerse una foto con él.
“Hay mucha gente aquí tanto del Real Madrid, como del Barça. Creo que es importante. Es un país que vive el fútbol con pasión, y sobre todo la Liga española la siguen con mucho interés”, afirmó.

El Cosmos de Nueva York se enfrentará en el estadio Pedro Marrero de La Habana a la selección cubana de fútbol, y se convertirá en el primer club de fútbol estadounidense que viaja a Cuba desde 1978, cuando el Chicago Sting visitó a la selección local.
La leyenda del fútbol Pelé también se refirió al aumento de la afición al fútbol, tanto en Cuba como en Estados Unidos, ya que en ninguno de los dos países son el deporte más popular, pero sí van ganando adeptos.
“Pienso que quizá en algún momento cercano Cuba pueda estar también en un campeonato del mundo”, afirmó Pelé.
El astro brasileño también destacó el papel que puede desempeñar el fútbol en favor de “la paz y de unión entre las personas” en un momento en que Cuba y Estados Unidos “están haciendo las paces”.
“El fútbol es la mayor familia del mundo y siempre trae paz. El mundo está lleno de problemas políticos pero el fútbol siempre ayuda a reunir a las personas”, insistió.
