Algunas puntualizaciones antes de entrar al tema con Cuba. Todas las empresas crucerísticas del mundo están desde hace casi medio siglo haciendo cruceros a los clásicos puertos del Caribe. Son tantos los barcos que frecuentemente, millares de turistas deben hacer cola en algunos de sus puertos para hacer compras en las tiendas aun para la compra de golosinas, todo está desbordado, además del marcado desinterés por visitar algunos de tales puertos y restricciones en otros. Así que Cuba es una nueva oportunidad.
Bueno, vamos a nuestro tema central. Seguramente este flujo de viajeros representa una cuantiosa fuente de ingreso de divisas a tal punto que ya tenían todo previsto para cuando Estados Unidos levantará las restricciones económicas. A continuación de la finalización del embargo, Cuba, decían ellos, seguirá una política contraria a la apertura que aplican los países del Caribe, excepto Bermuda que aplica restricciones y en consecuencia solo permitirá el ingreso de cinco cruceros de 2 a 3 mil pasajeros por día al puerto de La Habana.
De acuerdo con el representante de la empresa cubana Silares que maneja el tráfico de los cruceros y ferrys en toda la isla el gobierno cubano recompensará con tarifas preferenciales a aquellos cruceros que permanezcan en puertos cubanos por varios días. “Pero la explosión vendrá cuando las compañías americanas de los cruceros puedan venir a Cuba”. “Cuando el embargo sea levantado todo el mundo querrá venir y aunque podríamos recibir 15 barcos diarios, Cuba aceptará un máximo de cinco buques por día”. Esta limitación está hablando de un movimiento diario de 10 mil pasajeros por día paseando por La Habana que dicen es un nivel de gente manejable de acuerdo con los servicios y otras yerbas. También los barcos podrán ir a Matanzas y Mariel y de aquí los viajeros podrán ir a la Habana y a la Isla de la Juventud. “Este último año mucha gente ha estado haciendo esfuerzos y tiempo a preparar estos proyectos”. Dijo también que La Habana y muchos puertos ya están preparando la infraestructura portuaria para recibir a estos barcos. Incluso se han construidos nuevos muelles y reconstruidos como el de Sierra Maestra con la participacion en un “joint ventures” con Costa Line.
Por la posición geográfica estratégica le vemos a Cuba enormes posibilidades turísticas en el nuevo tiempo y más aun vemos al puerto de Mariel, donde Brasil está haciendo una cuantiosa inversión en el desarrollo de su puerto como la instalación de un puerto “hub” o sea un puerto concentrador de contenedores que vienen de Medio y Lejano Oriente, Mediterrráneo. México, y Estados Unidos para puertos de Sudamérica. También lo hemos dicho que una gran terminal de contenedores de propiedad de cubanos en Miami, nos adelantó hace algunos años que tenían pronto ya proyectos para instalarse en Cuba (Habana y Mariel) con terminales. Así que no solo el canal de Panamá traerá cambios con su ensanche sino con los cambios en Cuba también.
