When Cubans open their doors to American tourists, they will have before them the new modern fleets of electric vehicles built in China who will be in the streets with vehicles of the 1950s.
The Chinese electric car maker BYD (Build Your Dreams) said it will supply Cuba’s tourism industry something like 719 sedans EV (electric vehicles). Cuba needs to buy this fleet of fuel-efficient vehicles to support its growing tourism industry.
The order was signed in Havana on July 3 between Rodrigo Malmierca, Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment; Chuanfu Wang, general manager of BYD in Cuba, and Xu Qin, mayor of Shenzhen, where BYD is.
The first 719 vehicles will be a fleet of vehicles for seasonal rental in Cuba and the largest vehicle BYD in the Cuban market. BYD said in a statement that all fleet vehicles are models BYD, namely Suri, L3 and G6, S6 SUV and MPV M6 sedan.
BYD first appeared in the Cuban market last November with its S6 sedan and SUV F3 during the “International Exhibition of Havana.” The S6 model won the exhibition design.
The Cuban government bought 40 BYD last year for tourism, but Diaz said Cuba could eventually expand its resolution of official government vehicles.
The five-seater car will be produced by Shenzhen BYD Daimler New Technology and will have an operating range of 300km.
BYD jumped to the knowledge of the world when Warren Buffet acquired a 10% stake in the company through his investment firm Berkshire Hathaway in September 2008. Since then, traded in Hong Kong and rose to 355.05%. With a 33.3% year to date as a percentage he surpassed Toyota and Tesla.
BYD began in the 1990s as a manufacturer of mobile phone batteries. Since then it has evolved in the production of hybrid and electric vehicles, with most of its product line of buses that were made by governments in northern Europe.
BYD said it will build a center for after-sales service in Cuba in the near future, to support services and parts of vehicles sold.

Cuando los cubanos abran las puertas a los turistas estadounidenses, estos tendrán ante sí las nuevas flotas de modernos vehículos eléctricos construidos en China que se verán en las calles junto a los vehículos de la década de 1950.
El fabricante de vehículos eléctricos chino BYD (Build Your Dreams) dijo que suministrará a la industria turística de Cuba algo así como 719 sedanes EV (electric vehicles). Cuba necesita comprar esta flota de vehículos de bajo consumo para apoyar su creciente industria turística.
El pedido fue firmado en La Habana el 3 de julio entre Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, ministro de Comercio Exterior e Inversiones; Wang Chuanfu, director general de BYD de Cuba, y Xu Qin, alcalde de Shenzhen, donde se encuentra BYD.
