“The International Festival of Salsa” which opens today in Miami will pay a tribute to the legacy of Celia Cruz and will feature the likes of Luis Enrique, Willie Colon, Tito Nieves and orchestras like El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico and Ponceña Sonora.
“Celia is one of the ambassadors that this genre had traveled across five continents taking this kind of music and managed to reach markets that no one had come” he said Omer Pardillo, executor of the estate of the “Queen of Salsa” and who will collect the award.
In an interview, Camus said that “all the surveys you can do to Celia are important and especially here in Miami that takes place this year for the first time the festival” salsa.
The festival, three days celebrating its inaugural gala Thursday night at the James L. Knight Center in downtown Miami, celebrating 50 years of the creation of salsa, a term coined in New York for tropical music 70.
Henry Salazar Moure, the producer of the festival, which has been presented before in Mexico and other countries, told reporters that the recognition “Salsa Star” will be given to gender figures like Willy Chirino, Ismael Miranda, Jose Alberto “El Canario” Luis Enrique and India, among others.
One of the special moments that includes the program’s performance is Puerto Rican singer Ismael Miranda with Ponceña Sonora.
Miranda was the youngest singer of the Fania All Stars. Fania was founded in New York in 1968 and that left their mark Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Hector Lavoe, Cheo Feliciano, Bobby Cruz, Ismael Miranda and Celia Cruz, among others.
The festival will run throughout the weekend with outdoor events at Tamiami Park on Friday to act José Alberto “El Canario”, Ismail Miranda and orchestra The Adolescents.

Celia Cruz fue una exitosa cantante cubana de son montuno, guaracha y salsa, que desarrolló su carrera en Cuba, México y Estados Unidos y que falleció a los 77 años.

“El Festival Internacional de la Salsa” que inicia hoy en Miami rendirá un tributo al legado de Celia Cruz y contará con figuras como Luis Enrique, Willie Colón, Tito Nieves y orquestas como El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico y la Sonora Ponceña.
“Celia es una de las embajadoras que tuvo este género que viajó por los cinco continentes llevando este tipo de música y alcanzó a llegar a mercados que nadie había llegado” , recordó Omer Pardillo, albacea del patrimonio de “La Reina de la Salsa” y quien recogerá el reconocimiento.
En entrevista, Pardillo consideró que “todos los reconocimientos que se le puedan hacer a Celia son importantes y especialmente aquí en Miami que se realiza este año por primera vez el festival” de la salsa.
El festival, de tres días que celebra su gala inaugural la noche de este jueves en el James L. Knight Center, en el centro de Miami, festeja 50 años de la creación de la salsa, término acuñado en Nueva York para la música tropical en los años 70.
Henry Salazar Moure, el productor del festival, que se ha presentado antes en México y otros países, dijo a periodistas que se entregará el reconocimiento “Salsa Star” a figuras del género como Willy Chirino, Ismael Miranda, José Alberto “El Canario” , Luis Enrique y La India, entre otros.
Uno de los momentos especiales que incluye el programa es la actuación del cantante puertorriqueño Ismael Miranda con la Sonora Ponceña.
Miranda fue el cantante más joven del grupo Fania All Stars. La Fania se fundó en Nueva York en 1968 y ahí dejaron huella Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto, Willie Colón, Rubén Blades, Héctor Lavoe, Cheo Feliciano, Bobby Cruz, Ismael Miranda y Celia Cruz, entre otros.
La fiesta se prolongará durante todo el fin de semana con eventos al aire libre en el Tamiami Park en los que actuarán este viernes José Alberto “El Canario” , Ismael Miranda y la orquesta Los Adolescentes.
