U.S. CONGRESSMEN SUBMIT BILL AGAINST THE “EMBARGO” TO CUBA.
US Republican Congressman Tom Emmer and Democrat Kathy Castor urged Tuesday a bill to end the economic embargo on Cuba for almost 55 years ago and allow US private companies to trade freely with Cuba.
“Today marks an exciting new chapter for the relations between the US and Cuba,” he said in a statement Emmer, representing the agricultural state of Minnesota, which defends the embargo against fierce opposition from leaders Republican caucus in Congress.
The legislative initiative, dubbed ‘Trade with Cuba Act 2015’ and supported by other legislators, comes a week after Cuba and the United States decided to reopen their embassies and diplomatic enforce restoration announced seven months ago, on December 17, 2014 by Presidents Barack Obama and Raul Castro.
The bipartisan bill seeks to facilitate trade between the two countries enterprises, but sets a requirement, that the taxpayer can not be used to promote the development of these new markets.
To advance in the historic thaw, the Republican lawmaker said the new law will improve the US position in the region, giving the country “a seat at the table to promote an improvement in the political transformations of Cuba”. Similarly, Democrat Kathy Castor felt that lifting the embargo, which depends exclusively on the Congress, will advance human rights and economically improve the situation of families and entrepreneurs on both sides of the Florida Straits, which separates this state from Cuba .
“(The law) not only provide an economic boost here at home, but also help the Cuban economy and its people flourish,” said the legislator in a statement.
This is the second legislative initiative promoted by the US Congress to remove the economic embargo on the island since last week diplomatic relations between Havana and Washington is officially resumed.
Last Thursday a committee of the US Senate approved a legal initiative that held since January in the drawer of pending proposals, apparently waiting only the news of the resumption of relations was confirmed.
The measure, presented as an amendment within a project of broader government funding bill was approved by the Committee on Appropriations of the Senate with the support of several legislators from opposition Republicans, who enjoys majority in both chambers US Capitol.

CONGRESISTAS DE EEUU PRESENTAN LEY CONTRA EL EMBARGO A CUBA.
El congresista republicano de EEUU Tom Emmer y la demócrata Kathy Castor impulsaron este martes una proyecto de ley para acabar con el embargo económico que pesa sobre Cuba desde hace casi 55 años y permitir a las empresas privadas estadounidenses comerciar libremente con la isla.
“El día de hoy marca un nuevo y emocionante capítulo para las relaciones entre Estados Unidos y Cuba”, subrayó en un comunicado Emmer, representante del estado agrícola de Minesota, que defiende el fin del embargo frente a la fiera oposición de los líderes de la bancada republicana en el Congreso.
La iniciativa legislativa, bautizada como ‘Ley de Comercio con Cuba 2015’ y apoyada por otros legisladores, llega una semana después de que Cuba y EEUU decidieran reabrir sus embajadas y hacer efectiva la restauración diplomática anunciada hace siete meses, el 17 de diciembre de 2014, por los presidentes Barack Obama y Raúl Castro.
El proyecto de ley bipartidista busca facilitar el comercio de las empresas entre ambos países, pero establece un requisito: que el dinero de los contribuyentes no pueda ser usado para promover el desarrollo de estos nuevos mercados.
Para avanzar en el histórico deshielo, el legislador republicano aseguró que la nueva ley mejorará la posición de EEUU en la región, dando al país “un asiento en la mesa para promover una mejora en las transformaciones políticas de Cuba”. En el mismo sentido, la demócrata Kathy Castor consideró que levantar el embargo, que depende exclusivamente del Congreso, permitirá avanzar en derechos humanos y mejorar económicamente la situación de las familias y empresarios de ambos lados del estrecho de Florida, que separa este estado de Cuba.
“(La ley) no solo proporcionará un impulso económico aquí en casa, sino que también ayudará a la economía cubana y a su gente florecer”, destacó la legisladora en un comunicado.
Esta es la segunda iniciativa legislativa que promueve el Congreso de EEUU para desmontar el embargo económico sobre la isla desde que la semana pasada se reanudaran oficialmente las relaciones diplomáticas entre La Habana y Washington.
El jueves pasado un comité del Senado estadounidense aprobó una iniciativa legal que mantenía desde enero en el cajón de propuestas pendientes, al parecer a la espera solo de que se confirmara la noticia de la reanudación de relaciones.
La medida, presentada como una enmienda dentro de un proyecto de ley más amplio de financiación del Gobierno, fue aprobada por el Comité de Gastos del Senado con el apoyo de varios legisladores de la oposición republicana, que goza de la mayoría en las dos cámaras del Capitolio federal.
