IF ELECTED “Jeb” BUSH PROMISES “TO KEEP THE EMBARGO AGAINST CUBA”.
Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush on Friday accused the Democrat Hillary Clinton support a “retreat in the struggle for democracy in Cuba” to ask Congress to lift the embargo on the island. El precandidato republicano a la presidencia Jeb Bush acusó el viernes a la demócrata Hillary Clinton de respaldar una “retirada en la lucha por la democracia en Cuba” al pedir al Congreso el levantamiento del embargo a la isla. Bush consideró “insultante” que la aspirante a la candidatura demócrata a la Presidencia “venga aquí (Miami)” a proponer algo semejante.
“Esta ciudad se ha convertido en el hogar y refugio de millares de víctimas de Castro”, subrayó el republicano hijo y hermano de ex presidentes sobre Miami, donde reside la mayor comunidad de cubanos de Estados Unidos.
Por ello, prosiguió Bush, la “llamada” de Clinton a “abandonar el embargo”, hecha en una conferencia celebrada este viernes en la Universidad Internacional de Florida (FIU), significa, en su opinión, el abandono también de “los principios de la democracia” a cambio de nada por parte del régimen de La Habana.
Un acto que, a juicio del ex gobernador de Florida, “añade insulto al dolor que las familias sienten”.
Criticó, a continuación, la agenda política común del presidente estadounidense, Barack Obama, y Clinton con un programa que se fundamenta en una “falsa narrativa” al dibujar el embargo como una “reliquia de la Guerra Fría”.
“Afirman que quieren liberar a Cuba del pasado, pero no entienden que el pueblo cubano” no está preso del pasado, sino “encarcelado por el régimen de Castro”, hizo hincapié Bush.
Mostró también su “anhelo” por que un día el “pueblo cubano esté libre de la opresión” y disfrute de la “libertad de elegir a sus propios líderes”.
“Si soy elegido presidente —concluyó el republicano— voy a estar comprometido a ayudarles (a los cubanos) a lograr la libertad negada” durante tanto tiempo por el Gobierno comunista de La Habana.
Por otra parte, el diario The Miami Herald publicó un editorial crítico con Clinton, en el que considera que este apoyo al levantamiento del embargo comercial a la isla solo “refleja un cálculo político”.
“Cuba no se ha ganado el fin del embargo. Está muy lejos de ello. A pesar de meses de conversaciones entre ambos países y el anuncio de la normalización de relaciones, no hemos visto ninguna acción significativa por parte del régimen de Castro que beneficie a Estados Unidos o mejore las libertades civiles de los cubanos”, destacó el rotativo del sur de Florida.
Jeb Bush es hijo del ex presidente estadounidense George H.W. Bush (1989-1993) y hermano del también ex mandatario George W. Bush (2001-2009).
