The Cuban economic openness eventually leading to an “inevitable” political opening, although the pace is unpredictable, as considers the Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, told the newspaper ABC.
“That economic openness will lead to political liberalization is inevitable. Another thing is the speed at which it occurs and that is something that fundamentally the regime of the Castro brothers depends. But that will occur,” said García-Margallo on statements published Sunday.
The communist regime of Cuba passed a law last year to attract foreign investment to foreign capital, offering instead more guarantees and tax cuts.
Since December that investment from abroad has been increasing, along with the effects of domestic economic liberalization that began in 2013.

La apertura económica cubana acabará desembocando en una “inevitable” apertura política, aunque su ritmo es imprevisible, según considera el ministro español de Asuntos Exteriores, José Manuel García-Margallo, en declaraciones al diario ABC.
“Que la apertura económica se traduzca en apertura política es inevitable. Otra cosa es la velocidad a la que se produzca y eso es algo que depende fundamentalmente del régimen de los hermanos Castro. Pero eso se producirá”, opinó García-Margallo en las declaraciones publicadas este domingo.
El régimen comunista de Cuba aprobó hace un año una ley de inversiones extranjeras para atraer al capital foráneo, ofreciendo a cambio más garantías y recortes fiscales.
Desde diciembre esa inversión proveniente del extranjero ha ido aumentando, junto a los efectos de la liberalización económica interna que se inició en 2013.
