“EL BLOQUEO” SE FORTALECIÓ A PESAR DEL ACERCAMIENTO CON EEUU: CUBA.
El canciller cubano, Bruno Rodríguez, dio a conocer hoy el informe anual que elabora la isla “Cuba Vs. Bloqueo”, base de la resolución que someten a votación en la Asamblea General de la ONU, que este año tendrá lugar el 27 de octubre próximo.
La resolución, que Cuba presenta a la ONU desde 1992, incluye este año dos párrafos nuevos que hacen mención a la reciente etapa de relaciones diplomáticas entre Cuba y Estados Unidos y la voluntad expresada por Obama de poner fin a esta política y hacer uso de sus facultades ejecutivas para suavizarla.
Cuba denunció hoy que el embargo de EEUU “continuó fortaleciéndose” durante los nueve meses de conversaciones para restablecer sus relaciones, sanción cuyo impacto para la isla asciende a US$ 833.755 millones, desde 1962.
“En los últimos años, incluso en el periodo de diálogo y conversaciones confidenciales con el gobierno de EEUU, en los años 2014 y 2015, el bloqueo continuó fortaleciéndose con marcado y creciente carácter extraterritorial, en particular en el ámbito financiero”, afirmó hoy en rueda de prensa el canciller cubano Bruno Rodríguez.
Rodríguez se refirió a la “persecución” de las transacciones financieras de la isla y las “multas extraordinarias e insólitas” que EEUU impone a bancos y empresas “por sus relaciones económicas con Cuba”.

No obstante subrayó que Cuba “aprecia” los planteos de Obama a favor del levantamiento del embargo, su reconocimiento de que solo ha llevado aislamiento, su voluntad de “involucrarse en un debate con el Congreso” para el fin de esa política, así como de utilizar sus facultades ejecutivas con las que puede “modificar sustancialmente su aplicación”.
Sin embargo advirtió que, tras el restablecimiento de lazos diplomáticos, lo que “determinará el ritmo del proceso de normalización” de relaciones será las medidas que adopte EEUU para modificar y levantar el embargo, cuya derogación dependen del Congreso norteamericano.

El proceso histórico de acercamiento iniciado en diciembre ha llevado al restablecimiento de las relaciones diplomáticas, rotas desde 1961, con la reapertura en julio de las respectivas embajadas en Washington y La Habana.
En agosto, el secretario de Estado de EE.UU., John Kerry, realizó la primera visita en 70 años de un jefe de la diplomacia estadounidense a Cuba, y la Casa Blanca ha indicado que a Obama le gustaría viajar a La Habana antes de que concluya su mandato, en enero de 2017.
Obama y el presidente cubano, Raúl Castro, también mantuvieron un encuentro histórico en Panamá en abril pasado, en el marco de la Cumbre de las Américas.
El canciller cubano, Bruno Rodríguez, confirmó hoy la asistencia de Castro a la próxima Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas en Nueva York, donde coincidirá con Obama y, aunque no hay una reunión bilateral fijada, afirmó que “habrá interacciones”.
