LEONARDO PADURA: “CUBA, RIGHT NOW.. OR GETS FIXED OR IT SINKS”..
Cuban writer Leonardo Padura, Princess of Asturias Prize for Literature 2015, said Tuesday that Cuba, and especially Havana, is “at one point or gets fixed or it sinks” as a potential changes ahead in that Latin American country.
At a meeting in Madrid library Alberti, Padura has talked with film director Felix Viscarret on the project to film the Cuban writer’s novels featuring the detective Mario Conde and known as ‘The Four Seasons’.
For the author (who is also involved in the screenplay for this project), the shooting has been surprised by “an extra-artistic element.” “Cuba can be very close and undergo transformations that will change the look of the city of Conde,” he pointed Padura.
“Havana will be enhanced in the future with different elements inevitably form part of reality. The city no longer works and can change solutions, some will be successful, and some very uncreative or speculative”, he noted.
In his view, these changes are occurring because both the economy and Cuban society “are asking,” while hoping that shown by this stage. “Cuba is entering a time of history to enter another, hopefully better,” he added.

El escritor cubano Leonardo Padura, Premio Princesa de Asturias de las Letras 2015, ha asegurado este martes que Cuba, y en especial La Habana, se encuentra “en un punto que o se arregla o se hunde”, ante los posibles cambios que se avecinan en el país latinoamericano.
En un encuentro en la madrileña librería Alberti, Padura ha conversado con el director de cine Félix Viscarret sobre el proyecto de llevar al cine las novelas del escritor cubano protagonizadas por el detective Mario Conde y conocidas como ‘Las cuatro estaciones’.
Para el autor (que también participa en el guión de este proyecto), el rodaje se ha visto sorprendido por “un elemento extraartístico”. “Cuba puede estar muy cerca de sufrir transformaciones y eso va a cambiar el aspecto de la ciudad de Conde”, ha apuntado Padura.
“La Habana se potenciará en el futuro con distintos elementos que inevitablemente formarán parte de la realidad. La ciudad no da para más y puede cambiar con soluciones que, algunas serán satisfactorias, y otras muy poco creativas o especulativas”, ha apuntado.
A su entender, estos cambios se están produciendo porque tanto la economía como la sociedad cubana “lo están pidiendo”, al tiempo que se ha mostrado esperanzado por esta etapa. “Cuba está entrando en un momento de su Historia para entrar en otro, que espero sea mejor”, ha añadido.
