Inés Rodena (April 20, 1905 in Havana, Cuba – April 15, 1985 in Miami, USA) was a Cuban radio and television writer.
Career.
Before becoming a writer Rodena worked as a nurse. Through her experiences with her patients and stories recounted by people with whom she came in contact, her passion for writing was born.
In the 50s she wrote her first novel, La Gata (The Cat) for radio, which was a great success. In 1968 she brought La Gata to television with great success under the production of the Venezuelan state television channel.
In 1969 she went to work at Radio Caracas Television. In 1970 she recorded La Usurpadora (The Usurper). Agnes’ novels all met with great success, being recorded in Mexico, Venezuela and other Latin American countries. Rachel, Rina, Viviana, Los ricos también lloran (The Rich Also Cry) and Rosa salvaje (Wild Rose) are some of her greatest hits.
She died on April 15, 1985 at 79 years of age.

Inés Alicia Rodena Collado nació el 20 de abril de 1905 en la Calle Real número 14 en Puentes Grandes, barrio del municipio de Marianao, en La Habana, Cuba. Hija de Juan Rodena Deanmente, natural de España, y de María Collado y Cabrera, natural de Pinar del Río, Cuba. Su familia era humilde. Antes de ser escritora se desempeñaba como enfermera. Es así que cuida a la señora madre de Caridad Bravo Adams.
Por vivencias con sus pacientes e historias que le contaban personas cercanas, nace su pasión por escribir. Caridad le enseña el arte de escribir. En los años 50 escribe su primera novela para la radio, “La Gata”, que tuvo un gran éxito. A mediados de la década del 60 se marcha a Venezuela a causa de la revolución cubana.
Allí la recibe el productor y compatriota Arquímedes Rivero quien lleva sus novelas a la radio. En el 1968 es llevada a la televisión con mucho éxito “La Gata” bajo la producción del Canal estatal venezolana de televisión, protagonizada por Peggy Walker, Manolo Coego y Belén Díaz. También grabaron “Corazón de madre”.
En el 1969 pasó a trabajar a Radio Caracas Televisión. En el 1970 se grabó con mucho éxito “La Usurpadora” con Marina Baura y Raúl Amundaray. En ese mismo año, por amigos comunes, se conocen Inés Rodena y Valentín Pimstein, éste elogia sus trabajos y luego de una plática Inés le regala los libretos de “La Gata”. Inés se radica en México. A finales de este año, Valentín Pimstein produce para la televisión mexicana “La Gata” con María Rivas y Juan Ferrara como protagonistas, convirtiéndose en un gran éxito, un clásico que no ha podido ser superado por ninguna otra versión.
Las novelas de Inés siguieron grabándose con mucho éxito en México, Venezuela y otros países de Hispanoamérica. “Raquel”, “Rina”, “Viviana”, “Los ricos también lloran” y “Rosa salvaje” son algunos de sus grandes éxitos. En el año 1975 se radicó en el área de la pequeña Habana, en Miami, Florida, Estados Unidos.
Falleció el 15 de abril de 1985 a los 79 años de edad. Sus restos descansan en el Cementerio Woodlawn en la calle 8 de Miami. El nombre de esta extraordinaria escritora está escrito con letras de oro en la historia de la radio, la televisión cubana, venezolana, mexicana y de toda Hispanoamérica.
