“TRANSITION IN CUBA WILL BE LIKE LIGHTNING”: Norberto Fuentes.
Norberto Fuentes anticipates a “lightning” economic transition in Cuba when Fidel and Raul Castro disappeared but believes the United States will not allow abrupt political changes because they do not want turmoil and threats of civil war in southern Florida. Author of the fictionalized autobiography of Fidel Castro, reissued in Spain by the publishing Stella Maris, rubbed shoulders with revolutionary top to disgrace.
Fuentes, 72, was arrested in 1989 in a case that ended with the shooting of a group of officers accused of corruption and drug trafficking, including his friend Colonel Antonio de la Guardia, and General Arnaldo Ochoa. He could leave Cuba in 1994 through the mediation of Gabriel García Márquez.

Fuentes, de 72 años, fue detenido en 1989, en una causa que culminó con el fusilamiento de un grupo de jefes y oficiales, acusados de corrupción y narcotráfico, entre ellos su amigo el coronel Antonio de la Guardia, y el general Arnaldo Ochoa. Pudo salir de Cuba en 1994 gracias a la mediación de Gabriel García Márquez.
Pregunta. ¿Juega Fidel Castro algún papel en las negociaciones entre EE UU y Cuba?
Respuesta. Si sigue siendo el genio de la conspiración que fue, entonces él está manejando los hilos. Pero a la larga, Raúl resultó mucho mejor conspirador. Esperó todo el tiempo del mundo para sacarlo del juego.
P. ¿Se le mantiene informado?
R. Sí, desde luego. Y si no, él tiene Internet. Le encanta navegar. Desde que descubrió esta posibilidad, se hace muy difícil convertirlo en un [Antonio de Oliveira] Salazar.
P. ¿Cree también que Obama ha cedido mucho recibiendo poco?

R. No creo que sea el plan de las autoridades cubanas. No ocurrió en China, no ocurrió en Vietnam. En la antigua URSS ocurrió a medias, y mire el desastre que se armó. Hasta que llegó Putin y de nuevo puso “en orden” las cosas.
P. ¿Es posible que Raúl Castro tenga algún plan al respecto?
R. Todo eso ya no es un problema de Raúl, sino de los muchachones que vienen atrás. Van a tomar el poder en breve, así que ellos mismos nos dirán sus condiciones y mostrarán, más les vale, sus habilidades de negociadores, es decir, de comerciantes. ¡Y con el amor que le tienen a los dólares y a las empresas privadas, podemos augurar una transición relampagueante! Aunque, eso sí, desde el punto de vista económico. Desde el político, los primeros que se pondrán farrucos ante cambios estructurales demasiado violentos serán los americanos. No quieren turbulencias políticas ni amenazas de guerra civil al sur de la Florida. No se olvide de que quienes inventaron las migraciones salvajes, del tipo que ustedes están experimentando ahora en Europa, fueron los cubanos con el Mariel y después con Clinton, en 1994.
P. ¿Se registran contradicciones en el partido y la sociedad al firmarse la paz con el enemigo?
R. Siempre se han registrado contradicciones, y nosotros gozábamos con las contradicciones. Y era algo que Fidel, y ahora Raúl, me imagino, propiciaban a través de la Seguridad del Estado y de una institución llamada Opinión del Pueblo para mantenerse informado. Si no, ¿cómo diablos te vas a enterar de lo que se está moviendo en la calle? Y, desde luego, tomar las medidas inmediatas para controlar cualquier situación peligrosa. Donde yo veo, sin embargo, el asunto más escabroso de todos es en la inevitable desideologización del proyecto.
