Nació en La Habana, en 1974 y se graduó, en 1995, en la Escuela Nacional de Teatro.
Un día, cuando tenía 10 años, su madre le llevó al teatro a ver “ABDALA”, de José Martí. Pasó toda la noche con un sentimiento extraño en el abdomen, el mismo que notó después al ver por primera vez “Romeo y Julieta” de Zefirelli.
Comenzó a hacer teatro con otros niños en la Casa de Cultura de Bejucal y allí se quedó durante parte de la infancia y adolescencia. Hasta que apareció Carlos Díaz y le ofreció hacer la novia de “BODAS DE SANGRE”. Luego vino la Escuela de Teatro, donde aprendió a poder contar con palabras todo lo que sentía. Comenzó a trabajar antes de graduarse y así empezó la vida en la ciudad, una etapa dura, rica y necesaria.
Desde entonces, ha actuado en una veintena de obras de teatro. Destacan: “ICAROS” (2003) -por el que ganó el Premio mejor actuación por el personaje de Ariadna, otorgado por la Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba, y el Premio “Adolfo Llaurado”-, “LA CELESTINA” (2001), “BOAL” (1997) y “FEDERICO AUTO DE FE” (1988), todas dirigidas por Carlos Díaz; “ROBERTO ZUCCO” (2002) y “LA VIDA ES SUEÑO”, dirigidas por Carlos Celdrán; “GRACIAS ABUELA” (2001) de la directora Zulema Clares y “FAUSTO” (2000) dirigida por Julio Cesar Ramírez. En el año 2000 también trabajó en “MONIGOTE EN LA ARENA” Creación colectiva de ella con Milva Benítez.
Carlos Celdrán le enseñó a entender mejor a los personajes. Carlos Díaz fue como un abrazo que uno espera desde hace mucho tiempo. Carlos Padrón, además de ser amigo y el abuelo de su hijo, ha sido su director en las obras “GALÁPAGO” (1999) y “EL HURACÁN Y LA PALMA” (1999).
Gracias a estos directores y a esa experiencia teatral pudo enfrentarse con cierta tranquilidad al casting de HABANA BLUES, el trabajo más importante de su vida. Con anterioridad, había participado en el largometraje de Humberto Padrón “FRUTAS EN EL CAFÉ” y en los cortometrajes de ficción, en Escuela Internacional de Cine de San Antonio de los Baños, “TRES” y “PARANOX FORTE”.
Hoy Yailene Sierra está considerada como una de las actrices con más proyección del cine cubano.
