About 600 Cubans entered the United States at Laredo (Texas) from last Thursday through Monday, including almost all of the second allowed to leave Costa Rica group, and the pace of arrivals will go on for another three months, said the founder Cuban NGO released, Alejandro Ruiz, reported EFE.
In a telephone conversation from Laredo, Ruiz, who assists his compatriots just across the bridge over the Rio Grande linking that city with Nuevo Laredo (Mexico), said that many of the Cubans stranded in Central America since last November reach United States on their own or with the help of “coyotes” (smugglers).
“They are very desperate,” he said the Cuban born in 1966 and came to America in 1992.
For Ruiz, I lived since last Thursday at the World Trade International Bridge in Laredo, where a large group of family and friends to wait for the Cubans, “will not stop” assembled.
“It’s going to stay that way for at least three months,” he added.
.. According to Ruiz, last weekend at the international bridge looked like “were giving money away” by the amount of people waiting to Cubans, but most of those people have already left the city of Laredo.
One of the newcomers to the United States is Caridad Dominguez, who traveled with her husband and her teenage daughter from Costa Rica, where the family spent three months stranded.

Cuban Freedom, an organization created by Ruiz, continues to serve those who come and help them settle in the United States if they have no family or friends.
Currently there are fewer than a dozen in the NGO shelter, which manages them food stamps and financial assistance to which they are entitled for 90 days under the Cuban Adjustment Act.
In the fiscal year ended Sept. 30 more than 43,000 Cubans arrived in the United States, representing an increase of over 77% over the previous period, according to the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) .
The majority (30 966) entered through the southern border with Mexico, according to figures from the offices of the border authorities of El Paso and Laredo (Texas), Tucson (Arizona) and San Diego (California).
The Directorate General of Immigration (DGME) said Tuesday will take place the first direct flight to Mexico, which will depart from Daniel Oduber airport in the city of Liberia, Guanacaste.
On this flight, about three and half hours, traveling 118 Cubans, of whom 10 were minors and the rest are elderly, of which 43 are pregnant.
According to the DGME, on Wednesday were carried out two direct flights to Mexico on Thursday and two transfers enabled the other way through El Salvador and Guatemala.
This option was applied twice successfully last January 12 and February 4 and consists of a flight from Liberia to El Salvador, and from there a bus transfer by land to the border between Guatemala and Mexico.
The two options were managed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) through a travel agency.
The costs should be borne by the migrants and none of the governments involved have paid or received money for these transfers.

Unos 600 cubanos entraron a Estados Unidos por Laredo (Texas) desde el pasado jueves hasta el lunes, incluidos casi todos los del segundo grupo autorizado a dejar Costa Rica, y el ritmo de llegadas va a seguir así por tres meses más, advirtió el fundador de la ONG Cubanos en Libertad, Alejandro Ruiz, reporta EFE.
En una conversación por teléfono desde Laredo, Ruiz, que presta ayuda a sus compatriotas nada más cruzar el puente sobre el río Bravo que une esa ciudad con Nuevo Laredo (México), indicó que muchos de los cubanos varados en Centroamérica desde noviembre pasado llegan a Estados Unidos por sus propios medios o con ayuda de “coyotes” (traficantes de personas).
“Están muy desesperados”, señaló este cubano nacido en 1966 y que llegó a Estados Unidos en 1992.
Para Ruiz, lo vivido desde el pasado jueves en el Puente Internacional Comercio Mundial de Laredo, donde se congregó un grupo importante de familiares y amigos para esperar a los cubanos, “no va a parar”.
“Va a seguir así por lo menos tres meses más”, agregó.
.. Según Ruiz, el pasado fin de semana en el puente internacional parecía que “estuvieran regalando dinero” por la cantidad de gente que esperaba a los cubanos, pero la mayoría de esas personas ya dejaron la ciudad de Laredo.
Una de las personas recién llegadas a Estados Unidos es Caridad Domínguez, quien viajó en compañía de su marido y su hija adolescente desde Costa Rica, donde la familia estuvo tres meses varada.
Los tres se encuentran ya en Miami, donde, según dijo Domínguez, aún no sabe si se van a quedar, pues es muy pronto para decidir, pero están “bien” y “contentos”.
Cubanos en Libertad, una organización creada por Ruiz, sigue atendiendo a los que llegan y les ayuda a asentarse en Estados Unidos si no tienen familia o amigos.
Actualmente hay menos de una decena en el albergue de la ONG, que les gestiona los cupones para alimentos y la ayuda económica a la que tienen derecho por 90 días en virtud de la Ley de Ajuste Cubano.
En el año fiscal que terminó el pasado 30 de septiembre más de 43.000 cubanos llegaron a Estados Unidos, lo que supone un aumento de más del 77% con respecto al periodo anterior, según datos de la Oficina de Aduanas y Protección de Fronteras (CBP).
La mayoría (30.966) entró a través de la frontera sur con México, según las cifras de las oficinas de las autoridades fronterizas de El Paso y Laredo (Texas), Tucson (Arizona) y San Diego (California).
La Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería (DGME) indicó que este martes se llevará a cabo el primer vuelo directo a México, que partirá del aeropuerto Daniel Oduber, en la ciudad de Liberia, provincia de Guanacaste.
En este vuelo, de unas tres horas y media de duración, viajarán 118 cubanos, de los cuales 10 son menores de edad y el resto son personas mayores, de ellas 43 son embarazadas.
Según la DGME, el miércoles se llevarán a cabo otros dos vuelos directos a México y el jueves dos traslados por la otra vía habilitada a través de El Salvador y Guatemala.
Esta opción se aplicó dos veces con éxito el pasado 12 de enero y 4 de febrero y consiste en un vuelo desde Liberia hacia El Salvador, y desde allí un traslado por tierra en autobuses hasta la frontera entre Guatemala y México.
Las dos opciones fueron gestionadas por la Organización Internacional para las Migraciones (OIM) a través de una agencia de viajes.
Los costos deben ser asumidos por los migrantes y ninguno de los Gobiernos involucrados ha desembolsado ni recibido dinero por estos traslados.
