Los hermanos Yulieski y Lourdes Gourriel abandonaron este lunes el equipo cubano que participó en la Serie del Caribe en Santo Domingo, según informó Associated Press. Ni la policía ni la delegación de la Isla confirmaron la huída de las dos estrellas del béisbol.
“Que ellos (los Gourriel) dejaran la selección tomó por sorpresa a todo el mundo”, señaló una fuente bajo anonimato a AP, quien explicó que los hermanos dejaron el hotel a las 2 de la madrugada.
La prensa oficial confirmó la ausencia de los hermanos “en franca actitud de entrega a los mercaderes del béisbol rentado y profesional”. Cubadebate agrega que “este hecho fue inmediatamente rechazado por los integrantes de la selección cubana, quienes emitieron una declaración”.
La noticia ha corrido como pólvora entre la afición cubana y era lo más comentado en las zonas wifi de acceso a internet de La Habana al filo de este mediodía. “La vida le está dando una lección al Gobierno cubano y a todos en el país: si no nos modernizamos nos quedamos solos”, dice Kike, arquitecto seguidor de la pelota. Concluye sus opiniones con un repetitivo “no hay peor ciego que el que no quiere ver”.
Eliosbel Garriga asegura que “a nadie le gusta que le roben el dinero y eso es lo que hacen las diferentes federaciones cubanas del deporte, se llevan más del 50% de las ganancias de los contratados y aunque para algunos las cantidades que reciben están por encima de la media del cubano, otros se dan cuenta de que no hay derecho a eso y se van”, explica.

Yulieski, de 31 años, es uno de los peloteros cubanos más codiciados por las Grandes Ligas, y Lourdes, de 22 años, es un jugador del cuadro destacado.
Las Grandes Ligas de Béisbol han pedido al Gobierno de Estados Unidos una licencia especial para contratar peloteros en Cuba, algo que está actualmente prohibido por el embargo, pero hasta la fecha no se ha alcanzado ninguna solución. El Nuevo Herald sostiene que fuentes cercanas a la familia de los Gourriel comentaron sobre una posible reunión de su padre con funcionarios de al menos dos franquicias de Grandes Ligas durante una visita a Estados Unidos en el 2015, aunque esta información no pudo confirmarse.
Yulieski Gourriel firmó un contrato en 2013 con el club de béisbol japonés Yokohama DeNa BayStars que fue cancelado por no presentarse el pelotero a tiempo para jugar en la actual temporada de la liga japonesa debido a lesiones sufridas durante la Serie Nacional de Béisbol de la Isla, en la que jugó con los Industriales de La Habana.
Cuba cerró el pasado 2015 con la salida de 150 peloteros que, por la vía legal o ilegal, dejaron la Isla para jugar béisbol en otras ligas profesionales del mundo. La cifra supera ampliamente a la del año anterior, en que fueron 70 los jugadores que abandonaron Cuba.
