El pelotero cubano aprovechó esta oportunidad, gracias a que las restricciones para los desertores de la isla que ahora están en las Grandes Ligas fueron eliminadas.
Es la segunda vez que Puig llega a Cuba, desde que salió en la clandestinidad en el 2012; antes, en diciembre del año pasado, fue parte de una delegación de buena voluntad de las Grandes Ligas, junto a otros peloteros cubanos en esta organización, como José Abreu y Alexei Ramírez.

La diferencia es que ahora el de Palmira pudo llegar hasta su pueblo natal, visitar a sus seres queridos y pasar un tiempo de calidad con ellos, antes de regresar a Los Ángeles para concentrarse en los entrenamientos de primavera con los Dodgers.
Puig caminó por las calles de Cienfuegos, donde saludó amigos, firmó autógrafos, se tomó fotografías con quienes se lo pidieron y repartió sonrisas por doquier.

Después de un comienzo que auguraba grandes cosas, el palmireño bajó su rendimiento notablemente, envuelto en problemas de supuesta indisciplina.
