TWO CUBAN-AMERICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE FOR U.S. PRESIDENT ACHIEVE ELECTORAL PREFERENCE.
Republican Senator Ted Cruz won the billionaire Donald Trump on Monday in Iowa, the first race for the Republican nomination for president of the United States.
Cruz, a Cuban father and the senator favorite evangelical voters, recorded 27.65% of the polling stations, compared with 24.31% for his main rival, Trump, in the Iowa caucuses, which open the stage US primaries.
In third place, with 23.09%, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, also of Cuban origin it stood. Next, although much further, they are the neurosurgeon Ben Carson, with 9%, and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, with 4.5% placed.
Both Cruz and Trump appeared virtually tied in previous surveys on the Republican side, so the results are a triumph for the two Cuban-American senators and a disappointment to the real estate magnate, who had been convinced of his victory in Iowa.
“Iowa has said the Republican candidate and next US president will not be elected by the media. It will not be chosen by the ‘establishment’. There will be chosen by the ‘lobbies’. It will be chosen by us, the American people” Cruz said, supported by his family.
“Today is a victory for millions of Americans,” he said Cruz, who criticized the political “career” of both parties in Washington.
In Iowa, the Republican candidates cast of 30 delegates for the convention to elect the party candidate disputed. To win the Republican presidential nomination, an applicant must achieve 1,237 delegates.
For his part, Marco Rubio was the surprise with the support received in Iowa and recalled in a speech to his supporters that “for months,” he said he had “no chance”.
“This is the time they said they never happen. For months we were told that we had no chance. They said I had to wait my turn,” he snapped Florida’s Cuban-American senator from his followers.

El senador republicano Ted Cruz venció el multimillonario Donald Trump el lunes en Iowa, en la primera contienda por la nominación republicana a la presidencia de Estados Unidos.
Cruz, de padre cubano y el senador favorito de los votantes evangélicos, registró el 27,65% de los recintos electorales, frente a un 24,31% de su principal rival, Trump, en los caucus de Iowa, que abren la etapa de las primarias en Estados Unidos.
En tercer lugar, con un 23,09%, se situó el senador por Florida Marco Rubio, también de origen cubano. A continuación, aunque ya mucho más lejos, se ubicaron el neurocirujano Ben Carson, con un 9%, y el senador por Kentucky Rand Paul, con un 4,5%.
Tanto Cruz como Trump aparecían prácticamente empatados en las encuestas previas en el bando republicano, por lo que los resultados son un triunfo para los dos senadores cubanoamericanos y una decepción para el magnate inmobiliario, quien se había mostrado convencido de su victoria en Iowa.
“Iowa ha dicho que el candidato republicano y el próximo presidente de Estados Unidos no será elegido por los medios. No será elegido por el ‘establishment’. No será elegido por los ‘lobbies’. Será elegido por nosotros, el pueblo estadounidense”, afirmó Cruz, arropado por su familia.
“La de hoy es una victoria para millones de estadounidenses”, concluyó Cruz, quien criticó a los políticos “de carrera” de ambos partidos en Washington.
En Iowa, los candidatos republicanos se disputaban el reparto de 30 delegados para la convención que elegirá al candidato del partido. Para alzarse con la nominación presidencial republicana, un aspirante debe lograr 1.237 delegados.
Por su parte, Marco Rubio dio la sorpresa con los apoyos recibidos en Iowa y recordó en un discurso ante sus simpatizantes que “durante meses” le dijeron que no tenía “ninguna posibilidad”.
“Este es el momento que dijeron que jamás ocurriría. Durante meses nos dijeron que no teníamos ninguna oportunidad. Decían que tenía que esperar mi turno”, espetó el senador cubanoamericano por Florida a sus seguidores.
..Iowa ofreció una de las paradojas de la política estadounidense: en un estado con más de un 90% de blancos, el Partido Republicano da la victoria real y moral a dos latinos, hijos de inmigrantes cubanos.
