El Gobierno de Cuba dijo que está dispuesto a avanzar en las relaciones con Estados Unidos con ocasión del próximo viaje del presidente Barack Obama a la isla, pero dejó en claro que no cambiará su política socialista. Un editorial del diario Granma del gobernante Partido Comunista, que destacó el proceso de restablecimiento de lazos entre ambos ex enemigos de la guerra fría, demandó a Washington que deje de interferir en los asuntos internos y sostuvo que Obama puede hacer más para cambiar la política de Estados Unidos.
La Casa Blanca ignoró el texto y defendió la visita de Obama de este mes como una oportunidad de acercamiento al Gobierno cubano y a los ciudadanos.
Al mismo tiempo que la subsecretaria de Estado de EU para Latinoamérica, Roberta Jacobson, se mostró preocupada por informaciones procedentes de Cuba sobre la detención de los disidentes Berta Soler y Daniel Ferrer, en vísperas del viaje del presidente estadunidense, Barack Obama, a la isla.
“Muy preocupada por los informes que el gobierno cubano ha detenido @JDanielFerrer y @bertasoler #Cuba #DDHH”, escribió Jacobson en su cuenta oficial de la red social Twitter, de lo que han hecho eco medios estadounidenses de prensa y otros canales alrededor del mundo.
Obama visitará la isla 15 meses después de que, junto al presidente cubano Raúl Castro, anunciaron el fin de más de 50 años de enemistad.
“Esta será la primera vez que un Presidente de los Estados Unidos viene a una Cuba dueña de su soberanía y con una Revolución en el poder, encabezada por su liderazgo histórico”, dijo el editorial Granma. “Forma parte del complejo proceso de normalización de los vínculos bilaterales, que apenas se inicia y ha avanzado sobre el único terreno posible y justo: el respeto, la igualdad, la reciprocidad y el reconocimiento a la legitimidad de nuestro gobierno”, señala el extenso editorial.
El texto se difunde en medio de las crecientes expectativas en la isla caribeña a 10 días de la llegada de Obama y tras recientes críticas en Estados Unidos a su viaje, porque varios legisladores republicanos y demócratas sostienen que no ha logrado avances en el tema de los derechos humanos en Cuba.
El portavoz de la Casa Blanca John Earnest dijo a periodistas que la “larga agenda de Obama incluye la visita a la oposición al Gobierno cubano, levantando de manera visible, los derechos humanos universales del pueblo cubano”.
