TRIGGERED IN CUBA INTEREST FOR THE INTERNATIONAL TOURISM INVESTMENTS.
Centara will open in 2017 a luxurious hotel in Cayo Guillermo.
Centara Hotels & Resorts group plans to open by the end of 2017 a luxury hotel with accommodation capacity for 250 people in Cayo Guillermo. In addition to the Centara Grand Beach Resort Cayo Guillermo, from five-star, the company is working on two other projects in different areas of the island.
The hotel chain, known for its settlements of luxury in Thailand, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Viet Nam and Bali, is expanding its presence in the world and open two new centers in Doha (Qatar) and Muscat (Oman) for the end of this year. The Group also works on the opening of hotels in Dubai and Turkey.
The strong growth experienced by the tourism sector on the island, which last year surpassed the threshold of the 3.5 million visitors, it represents a great challenge for the flimsy hotel infrastructure of the island and a juicy opportunity of business for foreign investors. The island currently has 62,000 rooms, of which over 60% are under contract of foreign marketing and 16% are operated by joint ventures.

The Swiss chain Kempinski is working on the reconstruction of La Manzana de Gomez, in the old town of the capital, to convert it into a luxury hotel. The French group Accor plans to open 22 new facilities in the country with 7,000 rooms by 2030, as the luxury hotel Sofitel So La Habana, which plans to open in 2018 in the iconic corner of Prado and Boardwalk.
Canada has resumed its plans of real estate development at Jibacoa some 16 years after signing a contract of cooperation with the authorities of the island. The macro project, led by Wilton Properties, contemplates an investment of 1,400 million dollars for the construction of a complex of buildings and a luxury hotel.
The US group Starwood signed an agreement to operate two hotels in Havana, which will open at the end of this year. The company hopes to close another deal with the State Habaguanex to also manage the Hotel Santa Isabel, a luxurious colonial mansion in the heart of the historic centre of the city.
The Cuban Government, for its part, plans to build some 108,000 new rooms earmarked for tourism by 2030. The fledgling domestic tourism sector, however, preferred hotels run by foreigners.

La cadena hotelera, conocida por sus establecimientos de lujo en Tailandia, Maldivas, Sri Lanka, Vietnam y Bali, está expandiendo su presencia en el mundo e inaugurará dos nuevos centros en Doha (Qatar) y Mascate (Omán) para el cierre de este año. El grupo trabaja también en la apertura de hoteles en Dubai y en Turquía.
