Cuba abre el primer hotel estadounidense desde 1959. Desde la ruptura de relaciones diplomáticas, ningún hotel con capital de EE UU había operado en la isla.
LA HAVANA, CUBA- Four Points by Sheraton se convertirá en la primera cadena de hoteles americanos en operar en Cuba desde la revolución de 1959. Localizado en la Quinta Avenida de La Habana, junto al mar Caribe, este es uno de los dos hoteles de lujo que la cadena Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide ha decidido poner en marcha tras una negociación millonaria realizada en marzo con el gobierno cubano.
Las perspectivas económicas son buenas para el hotel: gracias a la relajación de las restricciones de viaje a la isla por parte de Estados Unidos, el número de turistas que la visitan aumentó un 13’5% en los cuatro primeros meses de 2016 hasta alcanzar los 15 millones.
El 3 de enero de 1961, Estados Unidos y Cuba rompieron de forma definitiva sus relaciones diplomáticas. Desde entonces mantuvieron una relación tumultuosa, hasta que en 2009 el presidente Barack Obama ofreció un “nuevo comienzo” para los países, iniciando una serie de gestos de distensión entre Washington y La Habana.

Cuba opens first U.S. hotel since 1959. Since the rupture of diplomatic relations, no hotel with U.S. capital had operated on the island.
HAVANA, CUBA – Four Points by Sheraton will become the first American hotel chain to operate in Cuba since the 1959 Revolution. Located in the Fifth Avenue of Havana, near the Caribbean Sea, this is one of the two luxury hotels that Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide chain has decided to put up after a multi-million-dollar negotiation conducted in March with the Cuban Government.
The economic prospects are good for the hotel: thanks to the relaxation of restrictions on travel to the island by the United States, the number of tourists who visit it increased a 13′ 5% in the first four months of 2016 to reach 15 million.
On January 3, 1961, United States and Cuba broke diplomatic relations definitively. Since then were a tumultuous relationship, until in 2009, President Barack Obama offered a “new beginning” for countries, initiating a series of gestures of easing of tensions between Washington and Havana.
